Ya the DXG is a real man's reader. No wimpy little k3/k4 that you put in your purse, lol!

I pack mine around (with Amazon black leather cover on) in a padded 10 inch netbook case (~$10-15 on ebay).

Cheers,
Tom

I put one in my cart but haven't checked out yet. My use would only be books.

It does look substantial when you put it that way, but somehow it feels right when I hold it in store.

A book with all its types, layout and graphics, is really a piece of art. I hated it so bad when the $89 best buy reduce it to lumps of alphabets. I swore I'm going to get the DX when it goes down to $250. Well, this is close enough.

Ironically, I ordered a printer right after

I am very tempted to get one of these. If the price had been this low when I bought my K3 a few months ago, I probably would have bought this larger screen Kindle instead. I tend to use a fairly large font and have to turn the page way more often than I'd like with the K3.

I have one serious issue though and I hope someone here can help me. It's in regard to the auto-rotation. Can the auto-rotation be turned off so that I can set the DX to display the text in landscape mode in one direction and later switch it to landscape display in the other direction without auto-rotation switching it due to its gravity sensors?

I read lying on my side in bed and prefer to read with the text displayed in landscape mode. However, the actual physical device is held in portrait orientation to gravity... so if auto-rotation is on, it would just keep the text switched to portrait display. I need to be able to turn the auto-rotation off, but also be able to set the display to landscape display in both directions.

I hope this is clear enough and someone can clarify this for me. Thanks!

ETA: I found the Users Guide and it can be locked in landscape orientation.

When I read that I had to hit that "proceed to checkout" button before you did! :eek!: Otherwise they may all be gone, and the screen of my Irex has several problems already. Can't imagine going back to 6 inches.

Go have a look at the Boox forum and find out if you really want an M90. When I can get the thing on, it works just fine. However, getting it to awake from sleep is at least a 5 minute process, and involves plugging it in, pushing the reset button, and pushing the power button, and then going through it all a few more times until the buttons actually respond. This is not the same problem with every unit, but every unit seems to have some sort of issue. Also, after about a day and a half the battery is dead, whether I've used it or not.

The DX won't replace the M90, as I use the M90 for ePubs, but realistically I use my Sony 950 a lot more than my M90, as it actually wakes from sleep on the first try.

The Boox M92 looks much more promising. It has a more powerful processor, among other hardware improvements, and it looks like they completely redid the software from what I've read elsewhere.

I was thinking of the DX, but I would really love to be able to take notes on it and have the more powerful PDF capabilities of the M92.

I agree. The M90's firmware is rubbish, but the M92 certainly looks interesting. If I were in the market for a Pearl screen 9.7" today, it would go between the DXG and the M92, and I think the M92 would win. Unless Amazon kept the DXG at $259,=, that is.

But that may well be the DX's last gasp; I don't like that 'while supplies last' bit at all...

What's strange: my DX is being shipped from China. It seems they send it directly from the factory? All my previous Kindles were sent from the US.

I have no doubt it would be nice to read while sitting on a chair outside and holding with both hands. I just wouldn't want that thing while reading in bed and trying to hold with one hand. I can appreciate how the bigger screen would give you that hardcover book feeling while reading, but then i've always been a paperback man myself.

I canceled my order last night after watching several YouTube videos to fully understand what I was getting. That, in addition to not having version 3.x firmware. I prefer to read on my tablets, and I just don't think I would use the DXG as much given its shortcomings (physical/software). I finally ordered the Touch; scheduled to be here Monday. The sale on the DXG is supposed to continue through Monday (while supplies last), so maybe I'll order again if the Touch isn't pleasing. *sigh*

Shouldn't they have tried to sell those BEFORE they had the $259 sale on new DXs?
