I just checked out the lighted Cover on amazon. $60 bucks seriously?!! that's 60% of the reader's price! And I thought my Smart Cover for iPad 2 is overpriced...
I rarely read in the dark. When I do, I find my Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 to be an excellent choice. |

But I'm glad folks are happy with their purchase. That's what matters. The concept is great. ![]() Last edited by SCION; 11-22-2011 at 04:45 PM. |

Yeah it's pricey but well designed. I like this design way more than the older lighted cases for the Kindle keyboard. I went with the non lighted leather cover and use a clip on light if I need it.

But with the non-lighted covers you have to remember the booklight and hope the batteries are good. I agree that they're a little steep but I love my K3 lighted cover and wouldn't want a non-lit cover.
Of course I do most of my reading outside (when I can). |

Amazon just sent me a message saying that they're giving me a $10 Amazon gift certificate because they're sorry about lagging so hard with these covers.
Also, even though I don't have it yet, I'm disappointed that it doesn't have a strap/band to keep it closed tight. |

I didn't like the strap at all. I thought Amazon only put the strap on because people would accidentally open the cover from the wrong side and that is where all the cracked Kindles near the attachment points started.
It would have been nice though, if the cover had a small magnetic closure to keep it from flopping open. Also, I think maybe the front cover is so super thin because when you bend it behind while reading, it basically disappears. You can't even tell its there. |

Here's a good YouTube video of the cover:
Now I'm tempted to get one. ![]() |

What are the chances for getting this one for half price as a special offer?

I love the new lighted covers -- slim, minimalistic and very classy. The light is just right, IMHO, and very similar to the Octovo Solis.
I do not understand the complaints about cost (also with the covers for the K3). If one adds the price of a leather cover plus a decent light the cost will easily be $60 or more and far less convenient having to carry an external light not to mention battery replacement. Not only that but any other third party cover is going to add considerable bulk which defeats the purpose of the design of the newest generation of Kindles. |

I wish they had a SONY-style cover with light. And I wish SONY borrowed the battery idea from Amazon. It's a world with no perfect solutions ![]() |

I own it, and it does NOT spot like that, in the dark.
However, it CAN, if held at an angle (which unfortunately for me is the angle I typically hold it at) shine in your eyes. You have to be aware enough to tilt is slightly so that it doesn't, and this creates the possibility of breaking immersion. It's not a big enough problem for me to return it, but I might eventually find myself taping a tiny piece of cardboard on it, or something. |

Like a lot of features on these new Kindles and covers, it looks to me that they were rushed out a bit too early.
The hard plastic backplate (albeit leather lined on the outside) is just going to trap a lot of heat (esp, when charging). This hard palstic backplate covers up the rear-mounted speakers and muffles the sound at least 50%. Also, short of using a rubber band, there is no way to firmly close the cover. The lighter/thinner top cover does not offer very good protection. The Amazon K3 cover (lighted or unlighted) is a lot better, as is the unlighted DXG cover imho. Neither of these fully enclose the unit and in the case of the DXG, the speaker holes are located on the bottom edge anyway. The K3 covers have a handy rubber strap and the DXG has magnets that hold it closed. Both covers top/bottom are padded and this helps protect the units. All this, together with the new greyer background screens. Some persons in Kindle tech services need early Xmas retirement packages imho, lol! Cheers, Tom |
