Yes, that sounds quite believable. In fact, during my tests I've noticed that at least 16 NAND blocks had been remapped already. It does not seem to be the best quality of NAND flash out there...

With some luck, "stress testing" will ferret out the bad blocks and leave the good ones to work...

i had 2 bad blocks and cause me issues not being able to upgrade via serial, i think those are the issues with the upgrading via menu/rotate if you follow the debug on serial terminal!!! really worst nand used. ideally we would also love the option to boot from sd! like nook color. see my vicinc post... long agony with end results...

I read somewhere in this forum that if you download an app and it's uninstallable, you can't delete it from your apps page? But I only read that from one user, and now I can't find it again; Does anyone know how to remove a free app that you downloaded that won't install? I maybe a little OCD but I don't like them out there cluttering up my happiness. Any help please?

It should be in the downloads directory whether it installed or not.

Hi Gigi!

Are you referring to apps on your eDGe or apps in your "My Apps" section of Amazon Appstore?

As Tekknogenius says, apps you download to the eDGe should be in your "download" file and deletable.

Apps you get free from Amazon you cannot remove from your "My Apps" list whether they install or not. At least, I have never been able to get rid of them, and I've tried! But they're only cluttering up my Amazon page, not my eDGe, so I try to make peace with the situation.

I have been thinking on ways to have recovery working, and this is what I have come up so far:
  • We'd need to have a full UBI image with a decent, up-to-date system (I'd vote for Allmine) so we can reflash to that.
  • By properly resizing the volumes we should devote ~200 MiB to this image so it can be permanently stored somewhere in the device. This should probably be another UBI image in a different MTD device, that's where "re-partitioning" will come into play.
  • Re-partitioning might affect the system and require changes to the ramdisks...
  • Then, we should have a program we can install in the maintenance ramdisk that will let the user choose whether to update using "update.zip" or reflash from the recovery image. I imagine that CWM does this, but we could probably have a more rudimentary program if it's easier.
Ok, I'm not saying anything new in here, but I wanted to do a "brain dump".
BUMP - Has anyone been able to figure out a partitioning scheme in order to make a recovery partition possible?

Downloaded Amazon installation apk's, at least on my PE, are stored in the following folder (installed or not):

/extsdcard/Android/date/com.amazon.venezia/cache/

I have remapped my sdcard and extsdcard folders, so on your it may be in /sdcard/....... instead.

Before I pumped up my mem, I was always worried about that, so I have deleted apk's from this folder before, without effecting the installed apps. However, amazon tracks your past downloads, so they show as available apps in their app, don't know how to do away with them. However, they aren't taking up room in my PE, only an annoyance when on amazon

Does this help???

You can remove them from the list in amazon too. Go to your amazon account from a browser, then click on your app and devices link, it will show all apps purchased. To the right will be a dropdown with an option to "delete this app"
