Or bandaids and kleenex. I think eReader (the commercial outfit) has lost control of their brand.

In my mind, it's mainly an issue if the Sony Reader is referred to as "eReader" since that term does describe a particular e-book format, which the Reader won't handle.

I tend to use 'e-reader' (hyphen, no caps) for the more generic sense, or just 'device' myself.

Remind me not to buy a used reader from the 55% that do take it into the WC with them.

It's not "e", it's "ae". And they dropped it in 505 anyway.

I can see people who have eReader format books thinking they will work with Sony and then purchasing one to find they don't work.

It is too bad that this happens but it is largely Palm's fault. They picked the eReader name late in the game, changing from Peanut Press and then from Palm Reader. It was a poor choice for name recognition point of view.

True, but I figure if I can easily avoid confusing people I probably should, regardless of whether or not someone else made a poor choice.

Not that I'm arguing the point, but just where was it brought up in this thread? (Or did the writer edit it back out before I saw it?)

It's become an issue similar to the (former) use of the name "Palm Pilot" to refer to all PDAs, and the confusion that could cause when buying apps or trying to share data. Fortunately, "eReader" hasn't become as ubiquitous as "Palm Pilot," so it shouldn't be hard to break the habit, so to speak.

All you can do is get specific, i.e., refer to your Sony device as a "Sony Reader," the Iliad's an Iliad, etc, not just "an e-reader." In a pinch, say "e-book reader."

We can be electronic book readers. And some of us might be reading eReader books using eReader software. But I for one am a human being.

I brought it up since I thought this thread was a well named thread for the issue. And this issue is a matter of etiquette as to using the term eReader correctly or not.

There are cases now with it is inappropriate to refer to a Sony Reader as a Sony Reader as there are now two models and not everything said about a Sony Reader refers to both models. Something said might refer to the 500 or the 505 without referring to the other.

Now when referring to a Cybook, you may have to specify the model since they too have multiple reading devices.
