That is assuming that their stated complaints (real and made-up) are the *cause* of their Amazon hatred.

Reading between the lines of some of the screeds it is clear that their issues with Amazon are rooted in its competitive threat to their vested interests rather than their products' failure to satisfy. (That is: personal and emotional rather than logical and detached.)

To put it another way: it's 1% "Amazon doesn't do business the way *I* want them to" (which is acceptable, albeit whiny, carping) and 99% spin-doctoring because amazon is riding a wave of industry disruption that threatens their livelihood (which is understandable but self-serving).

Best to just shrug and move on without direct response.
People get "touchy" when their livelihood is at stake.
Especially when challenged by people without a stake who literally don't care how it plays out.

Best to walk away, folks.

You are quite right.

It just seems that they spend a lot of time complaining about Amazon. I would have thought that they would have found a good alternative that they could be happy with and just put Amazon out of their mind.

Perhaps they haven't found a good alternative. Perhaps they aren't happy.

I simply don't like Amazon the business plan, how they seem to try to become the biggest, control, and monopolise every field they enter.

My word,it does seem rather a lot of ire to turn on those who just feel the same as I do. I don't think we threaten anyone, do we ?

Is it not just normal business practice to try to become the biggest and most successful? The capitalist dream and all that.

From my side Amazon seem to be one of the few companies selling books and readers that realize that the world doesn't end at the US border.

Its the incessant complaining that I am questioning. Of course they don't like Amazon, but why the need to bring that up on every other thread?

I chose the Kindle over the Nook...I've made maybe 2 posts the entire year I've been here in the Nook thread, one of which was explaining why I chose the Kindle over the Nook, and the other probably asking a question about the Nook. I do not camp out in the Nook forum, waiting for the opportunity to repeat why I don't want the Nook. That just seems crazy.

The gist of my comment is still the same: I do not understand why others seem to go out of their way to continuously complain about products they have chosen not to use. I could understand if there were no choices available, but there are plenty.

They are not going out of their way, the thread is in their way. And I don't see why the people who chose to use Amazon feel the need to complain about other people saying why they choose not to use Amazon.

I don't use Amazon because I disapprove of its business practices. In addition, I think Bezos' attitudes towards consumers and competitors is a lot like Steve Jobs' was.

I've also had the misfortune to try to negotiate on behalf of a small publisher a contract with Amazon, and I can tell you that negotiation is not a word that would describe what went on nor is it a word in Amazon's vocabulary.

Plus I'm of an age that values privacy. I don't want Amazon to monitor my every use of the Internet.

And Amazon has recently announced that those who bought Kindles without ads and paid to be ad free can now get the ads but no refund of the difference. Today receiving those ads is still voluntary, but will it be that way tomorrow? Not if Amazon determines that it is beneficial for Amazon for everyone to have those ads.

So I don't buy Amazon products. I do not say they are bad products or good products. Just that I don't buy them for these reasons. And that I don't trust Amazon.

Do I think consumers should support Amazon? No. Not any more than I would support allowing 8-year-olds to work in coal mines. I see nothing wrong with criticizing Amazon and the way it does business.

I see nothing wrong in your criticizing Amazon, either. That was not the point of my comment. My question is, would you now voice these same concerns in another Amazon thread tomorrow and the next day in another, and again in another?

If so, why?

Granted what you've said in this post makes a lot more sense to me, personally, than your other post about the "30 second interruption" thing. That just seemed silly.

Oh. One note on the ad thing: Its the purchaser's choice whether or not to now download ads...and that same purchaser can also cancel them at no cost, so I don't think a refund is necessary. Those who bought their device "Ad free" stay "ad free" unless they choose to do otherwise.
Plus, I think Amazon realizes that if it tried to make ad support mandatory, that people would stop buying their readers.
