If you're into Speculative fiction... check out The Leviathan Chronicles (or whatever else catches your fancy). It has a full-cast, sound effects, music, etc...

I've listened to a few episodes from several different titles, but audio just doesn't seem to be my cup of tea—as much as I wish it were—so I can't really vouch for the overall quality of the stories, but there should be something there that might work for you.

Itunes has some OTR podcasts.

Also Old Time Radio Theater is an excellent site for old radio dramas. They have many for free but with a small donation you get access to the entire archive. They have most of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater broadcasts.

Yeah, the CBS Radio Mystery Theater shows were great. Well, not all of them of course, but the show was great. I listened to several hundred of them when they were originally aired from 1974 to 1982. It was a one-hour broadcast but a lot of that was commercials. More info:

They're not all mysteries; there are plenty of science fiction, horror, classics, etc. You can download all of them for free at:

It also has a brief synopsis of each show.

The only drawback is that the quality is variable, and they all sound like they were recorded from AM radio. Which they were, actually. Seems I read somewhere that no one bothered to save (or maybe even make) original tapes of the show. What a shame. But you get caught up in the story and it doesn't really matter.

I thought the Beatles sounded great on AM radio when I was a kid.

I don't think so. They just play OTR re-runs. It's a pity, because I love radio dramas.

The best radio station out there is BBC Radio. It has no peers.

NPR has a few, or used to, but it depends on local station to carry them or not.
Sirius Radio also used to have some.

I know of a couple-few, but for the most part it is a dead art form here.

I think most of the production companies switched to CD instead, but World Service does still transmit the odd American-produced drama in their WorldPlay spot.

There was also Seeing Ear Theatre, but I'm not sure what happened to that. It was good while it lasted.

Another source is your public library. Audiobooks may be available in both digital and CD versions.

For example, you may be able to get the Lord of the Rings radio productions from both BBC and NPR. My libraries have them in digital format through OverDrive.

There are quite a few religious programs being produced, but I haven't heard a new secular drama in a long time.
