As long as the SD card can be seen as though it was a disk drive, then the Calibre "Send to Folder" or "Save to Disk" facilities can be used to put and/or remove books on the SD card. The "Send to Folder" would probably be the best as it is treated as a psuedo device and the Device interface plugin for the Folder device can be custimized to preset things like the formats you want to allow. |

This appears to be the issue, her device is no longer seen as a disk drive. alansplace suggested she insert/connect the SD card directly to the computer, but the concept went right past her. I'm guessing she would need a Sd card adapter to do this on her machine.

You don't need it. It requires you to set up the calibre content server. All Android tablets I know of have a browser. If you've set up the calibre content server, then all you need is 1) the built in browser, or 2) any of the free Android ebook readers that will connect to the content server. Aldiko will do it. Moon+ will do it. There are others. That's 3 free methods.

1) attach tablet as HD (apparently you can't do this), or 2) take out SD card and connect to your computer running calibre (this should always be possible if you have an SD card in your tablet), or 3) connect via WiFi to your computer running calibre with the content server turned on from a WiFi enabled tablet. |

If you have connected it to the computer, you should have a drive letter for it and be able to see what's on the card (if anything is there). Do you have a drive letter and can you see what's on it?

Before Calibre can recognize it, the computer has to recognize it. I think that's what you need to do, figure out why your computer isn't recognizing your card as a hard disk. Try changing card readers. I've had a few card readers that just weren't worth spit when it came to actually reading the cards. Once I moved a card to a different reader, they were fine. If you don't have a different reader, try plugging it into a different port. Sometimes my ports give me fits. Especially the one on the front of my computer. The ones in the back always work fine. (We really need to take mine apart and check the connections one of these days...) If it still won't work, try a different card. I had one just die on me and nothing in the house would recognize it, and I couldn't even reformat it. But until your computer can see the card, Calibre can't either. |

DuskyRose and I are saying the same things. I'm trying to find out if your computer is recognizing your card and DuskyRose is guessing that it isn't, based on what you've posted. If it isn't, I agree with the steps suggested by DuskyRose. I've had card reader problems and USB port problems also.

And in addition to Starson17: Is the SD-Card already formated? May be you need to do it again.

Anyway, you'll note that method #1 that I told her was, in fact, the browser....browsing...of which you speak. Katie, if you want to check out the paid app that I mentioned, search for 'calibre' on the android market. |

You may see the Send to device tab because you have another device connected to your computer. Even a charging iPhone could be detected as a device. If you have more than one device connected to your computer calibre will not see the second device. If you connected your SD card (just the card) to your computer and your computer sees it as a drive then you can use the Connect to folder feature to connect to one folder on the card and calibre will treat it as a device. |

Since ereaders have limited memory and processing power Adobe created their ePub renderer to process epub books in chucks no larger then 300k in size. Many public domain books, internally, will be just one large lump of html. These books work on your computer (big memory lots of power) but fail on a ereader. To fix this calibre defaults to breaking the internal html into chunks of no more than 260k during conversion. If you do a epub to epub conversion calibre will break up the internal code into bite size chunks your ereader can process. |
