Did you find a workaround for this problem?

I am experiencing the same thing - Ebook Library works great by itself, reader is 2 days old and performs wonderfully but when I connec the reader to the PC everything crashes and I have to force close the library.

At first I thought it came from the fact that I have over 500mb (lots of mangas) in the Library and that the Ebook library could not figure how to handle it but after removing most and only leaving only two books in library I still have the same problem.

I tried to uninstall the soft, reset ebook... still no changes.

howdoin, I've not had that problem at all. Have you tried plugging in the 505 and making sure the computer is seeing it as a mass storage device properly? If it is, then run ebook library and see what happens.

I just received my PRS-505 this week and have the same trouble. I'm not sure what´s the reason but trying different solutions I discovered is possible eliminate the problem following these rules:

a) Create collections directly on the reader. I tried creating collections on the PC and then synchronizing; did not work next time I connected the reader to the PC.

b) Don´t use accents on the title of collections (I read Spanish books).

Nowan_Hatsen: As to point A, short of using the software (which doesn't work at all anymore) how do you create collections on the device?

As of about two restarts ago (I've stopped even using the software since it no longer, ever, recognizes the reader, restart/install or no) I haven't been dealing in collections Could those have been part of the initial problem?

Colections are like a group of links (or shorcuts) to books. For example, I have several books by Isaac Asimov and created a colletion with his name.

When your start Sony software (eBook Library) and Reader is connected, you have two items marked with a little arrow on the left side: "Library" and "Sony's Reader". If you click Reader and then click the button "Add" (left inferior corner), you can add a new collection. Then you can put books inside the collection. Next time you can connect Reader to PC without any problem.

I think there is some kind of problem when you install/uninstall libprs500. Before I got my Reader, I installed BookDesigner and Libprs500, but uninstalled the last one because didn't work (always showed a messagebox saying there was other application using database). Maybe if neccesary to delete some entries on windows' register.

By the way, I had to delete all the content on the Reader. If you have a backup of all your books on PC, I reccomend trying this:

Reader's main menu > Settings > Advanced Settings > Format internal memory

Remember: you will loss all of preloaded books.

Well, I did some new tests. I deleted references about libprs500 from register and usb driver. Problem was back when I tried to create collections on Library (I'm using only books I have on my PC).

For the moment, I will use my reader as described on previous post:

a) Formatting internal memory for be able to connect to eBook Lybrary.
b) Creating only collections on Reader.

By the way, I tested storage on SD card. It's ok.

I figured out my problem that was similar to everyone else's problem. Check out "figured out the eLibrary problem" that's in this section. It details how I fixed the problem.

You wrote in your other post:

"I moved all the books that are in <my drive letter>:\database\media\books to a folder on my computer."

On my PC there's no such path. In fact, books are stored on BookDesigner directory and eBook Library goes there for them. I deleted a book from BookDesigner and dissapeared from Library in Sony's Software.

Ah... I'm not buying books right now... I have a good number of books on my PC.

By the way, what OS are you using?

I'm using XP. The path is from your Sony Reader. So if you hook up your Sony Reader to your computer and you go into My Computer you should see a drive letter that will be associated with your Reader. If you see a bunch of letters just click on all the drive letters until you see Database then media\books. From there just copy the files in books to somewhere on your c:\ drive. I moved, not copied, mine into Temp. It really doesn't matter what folder you move your files since you're basically just putting them there temporarily. After that just follow the rest of the things I put in that message.

I hope that clarified my message. I don't buy books either. The only "purchased" ones were the free Classic stories.

So no one knows of a way to create a collection without using the elibrary software? As I've mentioned, elibrary doesn't recognize my ereader any more.

Libprs500 can create collections without any involvement by the elibrary software. As with Sony's software the collections work only in main memory for the prs500, and both main memory and on a memory card for the prs505 (presumably: I don't have a 505 to try). Check it out!
