ok so nook color is not good for school, it's better to get a netbook? because i am an English major and i wanted to use it to download books and use the nook study program on top of that to read textbooks, but i still wasn't sure the nook color was good enough.
For the purposes of doing basic productivity work, reading textbooks and just basic web surfing, the netbook is a better option than the nook color? |

Agreed, especially if you're an English major (I was too). It would be great for reading books, especially if you're focusing on the older, public-domain classics ('cause they're free!), but if you're looking at general productivity as well, a Nook probably won't cut it. Nook Study won't work on it and the stock browser doesn't allow for tabbed browsing which could make research difficult. As for papers, you can get a word processor for the Nook, but trying to write a scholarly paper would be very frustrating IMO. It's a great machine, but it's really geared much more towards entertainment. If you can only afford one device and you don't already have a computer of some sort, you're much better off with a netbook.

i agree that it is a great device, but probably for school, it is a great supplement, not the main device. I bought a cheap nook color ($149) and did the SD card "root" and I got it just for studying. I use it to store flashcards on, and notes for study for my anatomy classes (I'm in massage school) and it is great for that, after a bit of a search to find the best programs to use for note taking. That said, I do most of my set up of my notes on my mac, then sync it with my Nook.
And I'm an English professor in my other life, and I do need my laptop for my other work--research, writing, etc. Still, I LOVE the NC, and am so glad I got it. It was such a pleasure to take that light little device with me this weekend when I traveled, instead of my MacBook, and I was able to study and then read too, as well as check my email, etc. |
