This is exactly what I am doing. I have a Kindle 4 NT KSO (phew!) delivered to a friend in NC who is coming back next week. Can't wait!

And I have a fire and touch that is going to a USA address then being shipped to Australia. Not that the fire is going to be very functional here.

The Fire is being sold largely as a content-consumption platform for Amazon's video services. Those services are only available in the US. That's why the Fire's only available in the US.

Try, streaming, the app store, possibly the in depth search function.....It will be fine as a reader though!

Does it physically detect where I am or can I register it in the US with an US Amazon account? I don't need streaming, but could use an app or two (btw are the iApps going to work on the Fire two? Excuse my ignorance )
I don't believe it'll be as good as a reader though, the battery life isn't that stunning.
