That wasn't my impression. But I was willing to jump through hoops to get it, because it satisfies more of my needs (at least, based on specifications.. we'll see what reviews say) than any other current-gen Reader. The side page buttons, the customization (your own fonts!), the touch, and wi-fi.

I was really tempted to get a second 950 as a "spare", but I suspect I really didn't need to, since I take good care of my readers. So it may be as well that it is gone now.

I take care of my things as well. There's always the possibility of mechanical issues though that would require a warranty claim. If Sony doesn't have any 950s in house, you'll get a T1 as a replacement.

'Tis true. Or possibly they could just fix it. And $150 is still a lot for a warranty "spare". It is all moot now, anyway.

I'd be curious to see if anyone who ordered it now from that site got it or not...i.e. did they really have any stock.

Makes me feel like a fool for buying a spare 950 at higher price a few days ago! At least it shows the value I place on the 950. But then, being in Canada, maybe this store would not have been open to me...

Ordered one of these this morning as another one for me. It still says 'order being processed', but the product page is indeed gone. They are probably new units though because the package contents included the ac adapter on the product page. Refurbished units do not include the ac adapter. These are most likely stock that has been sitting around for quite some time.
The one thing that concerns me a little is if indeed these units have been sitting around for so long, what will be the state of the battery? I recall reading somewhere that the batteries shouldn't sit for long without being recharged. They certainly shouldn't be allowed to completely discharge. |

Can the PRS-950 download books wirelessly with PRS+ installed? I saw this comment in a random T1 vs 950 thread but a quick search of PRS+ features, I don't see any mention of this (I may have missed it), nor had I heard of this before. If it is possible the 950 is almost a perfect device (no side page turn buttons and it's slightly heavier than I would like for my next reader). Anybody know?
ETA: I've found a thread saying you can download from your calibre content server with PRS+ installed. I wonder if this goes for feedbooks/project gutenberg/my sugarsync website, etc. Last edited by seajewel; 11-01-2011 at 02:53 PM. |
