Have you had success linking from one file to another? If you haven't actually tried it, I've attached SigilLinktest.epub that demonstrates Sigil's link reduction. If you load this into Sigil you'll see that it reduces each cross-file link style to #CH02-01. This makes ebook readers try to find the link in file01.html -- the currently-open file -- which, of course, they can't.

Thanks again for your thoughts.
There is an error in the link ID of second file it does not match file 's Link so Sigil throws it away

Sigil processing changes the reference to:

Code:
See <a href="#CH01-91">note 1, on page 50</a>.
which is broken: ereaders try to find "CH01-91" in the current chunk (ch09.html) and can't.
For what it's worth: The link refers to CH01-91, but the id is CH01-94. No wonder it's not found.

@optizs: I couldn't get mobileread to let me upload .html files, so I did what I thought was the next best thing -- used the original anchor name as the highlighted anchor text.

@theducks & pietvo: I'll go sharpen my typing fingers (slinks away w/ tail between legs).

Seriously, thank you all for your time and thoughtfulness. I'm not altogether convinced that my typos are the entire problem. When I have time, I'll update to v4.2 (linux) and spend some more time with this. If I'm still having problems, I'll see if I can come up with a rigorous example. If I can do that, I'll start another thread.

For now, I've manually edited all my broken links in Sigil. Saving to an epub works fine, as does loading an edited epub back into Sigil.

Thanks again.
