Sleep mode seems to be good.. I watched movie on it last night after charging it full. That brought it down to 70% in just under two hours(that was with the wifi running). I put it to sleep and started playing with it again this morning and it's been staying steady at 70%.

Obviously shutting it off is probably best practice so no juice is being used when it's not in use for extended periods, but when it is on, try to keep the wifi off when not in use, and take a look at the apps running in the background, shutting things off that you don't need/want to have running. you may have to experiment if you're not sure what is what.

this was a bit confusing in that I couldn't find a "video" player per say originally, but found out after the fact that you can just go into Gallery and it will display any video's in the video directory. The only issue is that you can't see the names to the video's, just thumbnails of them, unless you select and hold, then click on more info...a bit convoluted. To get around this, you'd have to install a file manager, go to the video's directory (or wherever you saved your video files) and you can start them from there. If you have more than one video player, it will prompt you which one you want to use and you can also set a default player this way..

I've also tried mVideoPlayer which works rather well. I like the bookmarking in it, which will come in handy for the little one.

So far I've been able to get it to work with AVI, WMV, and MPEG files, but you have to be careful how they are encoded as it will not play parts if there is no compatible codec (ie - sound with no video, or video with no sound, or no reaction at all).

holding charge

I did an experiment and left mine in sleep mode for 12 hours woke it up and the battery had barely budged. WIFI was on and I had seen it pop pit pf sleep then go right back.
Left it over night and woke to find it dead. SO it would not go 24 hours in sleep.
Now I have never had a wake from sleep issue or non responsive issue but after fully charging it...green light it would not wake. Had to do the volume up and power to reboot it. Woke fine after that and seems fine now.
I usually use to off and on during the day putting it to sleep many times and then charging it over night.......
for what it's worth

Note that the 2.1 amps is shared. So if you have two devices hooked up the Vox might not charge.

Yes, I figured as much. I'm fine with that. I have another IGO wall charger that I use for my Sony 650 and ipod etc and if I have my reader plugged in, I don't plug in anything else to it.

Although we don't recommend using a 3rd party charger, the Vox will charge using a 3rd party charger provided:

‣ the charger supplies 2 amps

Note the charging light will not show the reader is charging when using a 3rd party charger but know it's still receiving a charge.
I think the idea of "drop in" prongs for the wall charger is great. The problem is finding alternative prongs. I've got a US/Canada charger but I'm going to Australia. Where can I get an Australian plate? I know I can get an adapter but that seems to defeat the purpose and design of this nice charger.

Thanks

Dennis

Dennis - have a look at Blackberry charger 'prongs' I've seen some that snap right in to our chargers. Not an 'official' solution - I suspect we will be selling accessories for international charging very soon - but hopefully helpful.

How about getting the prons in Australia when you get there or order them online from Aus beforehand?

Do you know WHY they went with this kind of charger?
You want to be be so open with the use of book readers on the Vox then you make the darn charger proprietary..... why not go with a simple common charger. Oh and one that is easy to plug in. This little plug is hard to line up on mine and feels like it won't last a year

The Blackberry charger KoboJW mentioned looks remarkably similar to the one that comes with the Vox.

Not sure what the amp rating of the Blackberry charger is, but I'm sure it's well over one amp because those devices are also power hogs. If someone needs adapters for world travelling, this charger is a good deal for $20 even if it doesn't have the power.
