In fact, restarting TouchPad sales could be problematic since they'd have to charge a lot more for them than the $99 deal. "Why should I pay $249 when they sold a bunch for $99?" |

![]() I have some peers that bought one or two and gave those to their children so they can at least, browse Internet with it. Very cheap "laptop" if we can call it that way. I would not take out of the equation another HP tablet though, but that's something that probably will be seriously evaluated before launching it officially again. |

I understand that HP is reconsidering the Tablet Business as well.
In fact they are going to move to Windows 8 for their tablet efforts: From eweek: http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Desktops-an...dows-8-724689/ |

I have hp printers, a hp laptop, and old hp PDA, an old dell desktop, and laptop.
I have a keyboard kindle, but no tablet. I don't like Apple and I am not sure about all this Android stuff. I would like a windows tablet. Dell is going with Win7 on their tablets, and if HP is going with Win8. I may choose one of those for my tablet. |

I don't know about Win 8, it may be better for the purpose, but Windows has been a poor tablet OS in the past. Too bloated, and not optimized for touch interfaces. The user experience has been pretty poor (before now).
Of course, it does have the advantage of being able to run all the existing Windows stuff. Which is a big advantage. |

It's been a sad period for HP lately with the various mismanagement, and for a company with a history of some great innovation they just haven't been all that interesting of late. I personally feel this is the right move for now until they are certain of their next step. The uncertainty of their pre-announcement was not helpful, nor did it feel like the dynamics of such a move had really been well thought out.
The whole Palm/webOS story is all a little sad though. I've never played with webOS myself, but from all reports it had some nice ideas and a decent framework for developing applications. It will be interesting to see what they do with it now. .. but then I also thought Meego looked interesting, and those who played with the Nokia N9 seemed to report that it also was a nice little OS, but I guess when you do the maths the notion of trying to develop a whole ecosystem around a platform when you now have some established parties (with deep pockets) does make it a tough sell. |
