Right that what happens when you put your email in because you don't have a device registered. Although the the apps aren't device specific. You need at least one device with the app store installed on it in order to get apps.

OK. So I called Amazon and here's what the rep said. What you get in the email is just the market app to allow you to download/install the free app. It's not the actual app. You can't download the free app without an Android device registered with Amazon. So all of the ones I downloaded will be charged when I install it if it is no longer free. Bummer.

On the up side, he said that he's seen the free apps re-listed sometimes. So they may come through again.

I see, thanks all of you. I wonder if I can cheat by pre-ordering a Kindle Fire. I just haven't decided which tablet I want yet, and am waiting for reviews of Fire, Vox, Nook Color 2(hopeful), and anything else on the horizon...

I'm not sure you but you would think your could. I am getting a Coby 7022 tablet for $144 from Toys R Us. The Vox is nice too. The Kindle Fire has too many limitations for me to consider it.

I agree with you on the limitations, but I am curious about how good the screen is and stuff. Still, I think I'd probably end up wanting a slightly more versatile tablet. A bit more storage, bluetooth (for keyboard), and free open access to the Android market (or an iPad 3, if it comes out with a "retina" display).

Sorry you can't take advantage of this program yet. I think the key here is that you must have an Android device registered to your account in order to get these free apps. I "download" them everyday without fail. The majority are never installed on my Nook Color. They just sit on the cloud waiting for me to install them. Later on (days, weeks, even months later), I'll install one. When I do, I'm not charged because I already "purchased" it.

Occasionally, these apps are repeated; but it's rare. These apps were tracked on this board -- Free Daily Amazon Android App - US Only -- but arcadata quit tracking them last month. If you go to this thread on a different board you can see a complete listing of these apps. You can check it to see what's been offered to date.

Yes, I guess you can only get them if you have an android device registered with Amazon.

I've heard of people using an Android emulator to register a device and download free Amazon apps. I've no idea how you'd go about setting that up, but it's at least potentially useful.

That's what I was trying say in my other posts. You can't get free or paid apps without a registered Android device. It's a little misleading how they have it worded on the site so I can see why you thought you were getting the real apps. The good thing is most apps are pretty cheap that they've given away with the exception of today's app.

Some of these apps being given away wont be KF compatible. I think this is why they haven't allowed those who pre-ordered to add apps to their account yet. The KF will have it's own version of the App Store.

Some won't (but Amazon is testing all current apps in the store and requiring testing on all new listings), but most will. There won't be a separate appstore for the Fire.

You do need a device registered, but can register someone else's device temporarily (or even one at Best Buy), grab your apps, then deregister to prevent unwanted purchases on the device.

I did a write-up on my blog (http://blog.booksontheknob.org/2011/...d-apps-at.html) that goes over it step by step. You don't need a serial # and it's easy to de-register when done. I was testing the Asus Transformer in the store, to make sure it worked with the appstore, when I stumbled thru the steps the first time.

My mom wanted to buy the deal in this thread - I registered the tablet (which I did end up buying at BB) to her account with minimal annoyance this time, since the appstore app was already installed. It's a bit longer with a new tablet, but essentially it's one setting change, click a link in your email and install.
