My Kindle has been to Europe, Asia and all over the states. My security ritual starts when I grab three bins when I get to the security scanner. One for my laptop; second one for my shoes, belt, phone, keys, watch and liquids (in a ziploc baggie); and the third one for my electronic stuff, including kindle, camera, gps and a clear plastic zipper bag of cords & chargers.

It does seem kind of silly to unpack when I go through airport security. However, before I separated everything, I had the pleasure of them unpacking and repacking my bags due to electronic stuff tucked away.

Thank you guys for all the advice. I will put it in the bin to go through, it will be its first flight (sleep mode ok? wifi off of course) I'm starting to have a bit of "reise fever", long day with change of flights ahead. And I hate packing!!!

Chi, good luck with your flight. I have spent many a happy hour on flights stuck into a great book. Like others have said, carry it in your hand luggage and if you want to put it in one of the plastic trays then do so (I don't bother and have had no issues travelling all across Asia with mine, including China)

Keep wi-fi off and you're good to go for in-flight reading, music listening or audio booking!

Like others have mentioned, I traveled all over the world with my K2 (along with a laptop and more recently, a Xoom) and never had any problem. I do believe my best investment after the Kindle itself was the leather case, it has done a terrific job of protecting the screen through all my travels.

Joking aside, if you're worried about the screen breaking in the scanner then remove the e-reader from your bag and put it in one of the bins. Send the bin through the scanner on its own. That should protect it from impact damage.
Wow. What you changed it to is even worse, as now you are just insulting the OP. Is your whole blog made from trolling these boards?

@ Nate the (not so) great

Just read your edit of the blog where you directly quoted the OP and then went on to ridicule their very legitimate question (even naming the forum you trolled it from). I have to agree with tom e, truly classless. A simple apology would have sufficed. Paraphrasing the OP's original question while condescendingly pointing out that you're doing so only because the OP was upset is mean spirited and journalistically pathetic. The members of MR deserve better......

Oh, FYI - you might want to throw a magazine or skinny paperback in your bag for reading during take-off and landings. The airplane staff will ask you to turn it off in with the other electronic devices (at least they did, last time I flew).

So much hostility on this thread. People need to lighten up and get a sense of humor. Nate, feel free to quote me and have a bit of fun with with any question I may ask ... serious or not. Life is short - LAUGH!

As for the original question - my K3 has been through a few scanners with no issue. My sister's K2 has been through 500+ airport scanners worldwide. She travels pretty much non-stop. Her Kindle is as good as new. I'd say a broken ereader was fluke.

You only think that because he edited it again. Which by the way was a good move. Now it's just weird again, no longer insulting. Whatever.

I absolutely agree that there is a significant amount of misplaced hostility in many of these threads. However, wvcherrybomb, jumping in at the end of a conversation is going to cause you to miss a few things.... Nate's third try at his blog does strike the right tone (IMHO) and is humorous - 'third times a charm'. Though a well phrased apologetic PM to the OP would not be inappropriate....
