Well, it's not hard covered case but I have added extra layer from different hard case.

Many of us have that thing, I have one too. Better than nothing. Although now I don't need it since m-edge came out with their leather cases.

Using battery case for PRS 505

I got my Sony PRS 505 yesterday, and I found that I can use the case of Sanyo eneloop batteries purchased at Costco.
As shown in the pictures, it leaves some space around the reader with its cover on.
I filled the gaps with paper towls for now but I guess I should get some packaging foams instead.
One good thing about the case is that it has easy carrying handle.
Since Eneloop is also good rechargeable battery with very low self-discharge, I would highly recommend both batteries and case (for Sony Reader).

I just ordered the case below. It seems to be just what I have been looking for:

gardenstate posted about it in the following thread:

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16316

I'll post my thoughts to that thread when I get it.

It also fits the Gen3, But just barely as the Gen3 is a little taller then the Sony.

Another alternative worth considering might be

Wii Accessory cases like this & this. While they are a little more bulkier, especially in the 1st case, it has a hard surface sandwiched between the padding to protect the screen.

Look at this -

No hinge, but it looks to be a strong case.
