Ozric, I have a Mac and ADE has never worked with the Sony readers for me. However, you can still purchase Adobe DRM'ed EPUBs and PDFs to use with your T1. When you buy from another bookstore like Kobo, you download an ACSM file which you can open with the Sony software. It will download the book from the retailer's website to your computer. You don't have to use the Sony software to transfer the book to your T1. Just find the copy of the book on your hard-drive. I like to put it in my Dropbox account and then download it from there using the T1 browser. Or, you can drag and drop it directly into the Books folder on the T1 through Windows Explorer via USB cable. You could also add it to your calibre library and send to device that way. There are several alternatives, and I don't miss ADE.

I should add you could also open the ACSM file with ADE, which will download the book to a folder on your hard-drive too (just like the Sony software). Then you can use the same methods above to get it on your device rather than direct transfer through the software.

Google Apprentice alf. With the right plugins installed, calibre automatically removes drm when books are uploaded to it.

Not that I'm relying on ADE for my eBooks. But one of the reasons I wanted to go with another Sony when buying a new reader was the flexibility ADE is supposed to provide when choosing a place to get books. It would be nice if I could get it to work.

Use the ADE on your computer to get books onto your computer.

Use the ADE on your T1 to get books on the T1.

You can download any book, DRM or not, directly to your T1. There's no need to have ADE on your computer recognize the device. It's just not necessary.

Sarcasm aside, Calibre can be used as a library for downloaded files - whether they have DRM or not - and can transfer those DRMd files to a Sony.

Truly? I have used Calibre regularly but not as my primary tool to manage my book collection. One reason - because I can't manage my annotations. But also because I couldn't import DRM-protected content. I tried a while ago with some issues of the WSJ I got from SONY's store and I got some error message saying they could not be opened because of DRM protection - and a link to some long rant about the evils of DRM.

Am I missing something here? If there is a way to manage DRM content with Calibre (even if I can't view the content itself in Calibre) I would be a happy camper.

Yes, you can import DRM'ed EPUB's into calibre for library management or to transfer via USB to your ereader. You just can't convert them. There might have been something special about the periodicals.

Thanks. I'll look into it and give it a second try.

it can't remove DRM from downloaded book, but, you can open the crappy ascm files with calibre...
You need ade to download books, period.

Calibre cause more problem than it is an help.... The messy file organization means you have to use calibre to do everything...

You can open the crappy ascm files with calibre? This is news to me and to think I wasted all this time using ADE for this function.

I have the same problem with ADE. Loading the books into the Sony reader doesn't help, as they're just listed as "Expired" and you can't open them on the reader. I use calibre now, and have no problems.

Oddly enough, I can still borrow ADE-protected library books if they are download through the Reader;s browser. At least that is working as intended, I guess! Trying to download my purchased ebooks this way does not work, however....a badly-worded error message pops up, and that's the end of the road.

I meant can't, as anyone with a brain would have corrected.
