I voted for Android. Though I might consider the new Win Phone7.

I woul'd never buy iphone. Or any apple product none whatsoever. In fact, were they the only phone available, I'd rather be without.

I'd go with android, I've only had good experiences with my current android phone so I'd happily have another.

I have an Android Nexus S (Samsung) and it is all the phone I need. I am going to pass on the new google phone (Nexus Prime) for that reason and keep this hardware awhile longer. My husband has a cheap phone (and plan) meant for seniors that hardly ever use their phones. I think he has used 6 minutes in the past six months and he never texts or does anything else on the phone. My son has an iPhone 3GS and has no plans to update--he feels his phone meets all his needs as well. I guess none of us are into the idea that the release of a newer/arguably better phone always has real value.

Everyone wants an iPhone if they have the money to get it, it has class, it is a status symbol. it is worth the money. Unfortunately, It also carries a lot of 'Apple' bullshit.

Next comes android for the geeks, power users, value-for-money, google services users, Android v4.0 is cutting edge. Unfortunately, droids have short lifes, low quality apps and market fragmentation which is its achilles heel.

Next comes Blackberry for the suits! (iMessage & gTalk threaten BBM quite well). Perfect For Thumb-Jockeys. Design is inherently counterproductive to the whole 'touch' scene.

Next comes Windows Phone, a new contender due to the upcoming Win8, sure to make it big if Microsoft plays it right. Attracts microsoft services users(win, msoffice etc), cheaper then Apple phones, connected with windows OS and Office products.

My first phone was an Android (HTC Desire).
My second phone is an iPhone 4.
My third phone will be Windows Phone 8.

I'm done with cell phones. But I will admit that I always needed to own the latest and greatest... right up until the time I figured out I could still live a productive life without one. If I did need one, it would probably buy an Android phone.

Grand Total = $562
You don't actually HAVE to buy a data plan with your phone (or a contract for that matter) The way I have my phone set up is that I have something called a Tab, so whatever I pay a month (around $30) I pay 10% extra to pay off my Tab (So $3 extra) and I can pay off my Tab whenever I wan't. As for the Data plan I have a flex plan that goes like this:

5mb= $5 ( If you just wanted to check your mail this would do)

10-100MB = $10

100-200MB = $15

200-300MB = $20

300-500MB = $25

500- 1GB = 30

Or if I started using more Data you could buy 2GB for $25

I'm not sure. I have an Android now, but I'm with Sprint so iPhone hasn't been an option for me. I like my Android, but I sometimes wish for the across-the-board compatibility that comes with iOS. On the other hand, I don't like iTunes.

Still, I'd probably go over to the iPhone side, at least to try it, just because the software is more stable.

I really like the look of Windows 8. But if I were to buy a new phone right now, probably an Android phone. my iPhone is barely a year old and the sleep button is failing. I'd also like slightly bigger screen in general. the new Samsung coming out looks nice!

I buy used previous generation iPhones, unlock them, and use them on T-Mobile sans data plan.

So I get the ability to sync with my mac, and I don't have to carry two devices, but I don't have to pay for data I'm not going to use.

AT&T is about to louse that up when they buy T-Mobile. which is really annoying and may make switch to Verizon just to spite them (and I loathed their predecessor, Cingular due to bad CS and double-dipping my account).

Sorry, not I...

I have the money, but don't like Apple's approach to what can and can't be sold/done in their app-stores and on their products. And, I still hold a BIG grudge for their role in helping usher in the agency model.

I'm really happy with my de-branded/rooted Android phone right now, and if I had to get another phone, would get another Android.

To me, carrying around an Apple product is an anti-status symbol..

Um, I do? Sorry, you're wrong about that one. You couldn't pay me enough to get an iPhone. I don't care how pretty it is. I'm an adult and "sparkly" is not enough to distract me from their draconian walled garden. I don't know of any half-way intelligent adult who is impressed by the ownership of sparkly bits of kit. I'm certainly not, nor would I associate with someone who is.

None of these things are necessarily true. Android has some really amazing apps, first off - and tons of them are free. Second, battery life depends on the model - the Incredible 2 is pushing 36 hours with regular use, which is well above average for a smartphone.

And finally, I have never understood what's so bad about "fragmentation." Fragmentation is part of what's awesome about open source. You have choices.

And as much as people whine about this for reasons I will never understand, guess what. Honeycomb is a sales disaster. Why? I don't know, but I'm willing to bet that it being the only closed-source Android is a factor. You have no choices, combined with how apparently buggy it is - and of course, no one can fix it because it's closed source. Android users are used to choices. They may or may not understand that open source and fragmentation is what gives them those choices, but it is.

You see this in the general Linux market as well. Despite how I may sound right now, I'm actually not all that geeky. I can use Linux Mint and never have to so much as look at the terminal - it's a great user-friendly OS. Or my uber-geek friends can run Slackware. Freaks.

Fragmentation is good. Fragmentation means there's something out there for ME, and something out there for the geek next door, and something out there for the power user, and something out there for someone with disabilities, and something out there for the soccer mom.

When did it become a bad thing to NOT be forced into some little tiny mold of how you must do things?

Oh, and in case you can't figure it out... Android.
