I guess I stumped everyone. Glad I'm not the only one. So I haven't used my Kobo since my last post (I've been at work) and today I connected it to my computer, added a new book, disconnected it and sat down to start reading to discover the book I just added is now the only book on my Kobo. All other books are gone. I've never had any trouble whatsoever with my Kobo in over a year and a half until now. Sure hope I can get them back on there.

Update: the Kobo only sees the new book I put on there. Calibre still thinks they're all on there (check mark beside all the books when the Kobo is connected).

I did a quick review of the thread and didn't see this option, have you tried reformatting your internal memory? Check the manual on how to do this.

I have had exactly this problem on my Kobo Touch after taking a book off because I have found a cover for it, and then trying to put it back on. I could load the book by going into the calibre library folder in Finder (Mac) which I'm guessing is the same as Windows Explorer referred to above. Then I just pulled across the folder for the book, which contains text, cover and whatever else goes with these (sorry, very non-technical!).

However, I have never had the problem of all books disappearing from the Kobo but calibre marking them as being in the Kobo library. It would just indicate that the book wasn't in the Kobo when I linked them up again.

It sounds as if you need to do a Factory Reset and start again, maybe just loading a few books at a time.

Good luck!

I guess I'm a tad impatient. Before I saw your post, I deleted the sqllite file on the Kobo and did a factory reset. I set it all back up with my Kobo account and email address just like it was new from the store and sync'd it. I must be missing a step that I did here somewhere but when I disconnected it from my pc, all my books were back. They shouldn't be since the Kobo desktop won't see the Calibre loaded books but there they were. So I connected it to the pc again and started Calibre and everything is back to normal. Like I said, I must have forgot that I did something because I don't remember connecting Calibre before all the books re-appeared.

Anyway, all is good now (not entirely sure how!). Even the book that I was having trouble with in the original post is now on my Kobo and ready to go!

Thanks to all for the help. I'm very happy to have my Kobo and books back!

Deleting the sqllite file required Kobo to search your device for books that were on it and rebuild the database on start-up. Surprise! Your database must have been corrupted. I'm glad you got it working again.

Good point. I do remember when I disconnected after removing the sqllite that it took a very long time to "process new content" or whatever it says. It took long enough that I was getting worried that I had permanently messed things up. I guess it was discovering books on the device. Everything is working great now and the Kobo is much faster than it was last week.

This is slightly off topic, but I have seen references to sqlite before, but they seem to be old threads not about Kobo Touch. I have looked but couldn't pick up anything in the documents about it.

I'm interested because I have had much the same problem of books appearing to go through to the KT and then not actually doing so, so it may be I need to delete the squlite file also.

Should I start a new thread on this? Thanks for any advice.

From what I understand, resetting it (using a pin to push the button in the hole in the back) will remove the sqllite file now. But I'm no expert and I don't own a Touch so I will defer to one of the experts here.

Thanks for this Jafo. I'll try that if no other advice comes forth. I was reading today and twice within a couple of hours the screen went blank and it told me to recharge the battery - even though it was about 75% full.

So there may be some sort of problem in there and maybe prodding it in the back will do the trick.
