Try turning the wireless off for a few minutes if it happens then back on and synch. That fixed it for me. It hasn't done it since. I have a very old Linksys router. |

Hi. I may be a little late for this thread, but got my Kindle 4 on Monday, and connected to my home wifi with no problems. Was fine for a couple of days, then yesterday wouldn't connect to the wifi. I checked my phone and laptop, and both were connected ok. I reset the Kindle, and had no bars of wifi signal still. On going to settings, it claimed to be able to see 14 networks (in the brackets), but wouldn't display any. I reset again, and all was good - instant connection. Then a few moments later after leaving it I noticed it was restarting of its own accord.
Since then, no sign of wifi, and have tried numerous reboots. Think I may have to return it unfortunately. Anyone else had problems since/ a recurrence of problems? |

You folks may have reached the limit of your WiFi allotments on your router. I use the ATT Residential Gateway. It has a limit of 10 devices. Thus, every time a device is discarded, one must disconnect it from the WiFi net first. Otherwise, it's allotment is not reduced.
I had sent back a defective 3rd generation Kindle last year. First I had to unregister it from Amazon and then I had to manually disconnect it from the WiFi network (not just turn off WiFi). Had I failed to do so, my Residential Gateway would still be counting it towards the 10 limit. If one fails to do this, one must reset the Residential Gateway altogether and start adding devices again. Try disconnecting some unused WiFi devices like cell phones you no longer use. Then connect the Kindle 4 to the net. If you've discarded a lot of devices without disconnecting them from your net, then try resetting the router and add them back again one by one. Finally, WiFi nets have range limits and could be blocked by physical obstructions. See if your problem occurs only in one place in your house. Last edited by sirmaru; 11-10-2011 at 07:00 PM. |

Thanks for the responses. A factory reset did the trick. I'll monitor it, and it it happens again return it for a new one.

The other day my kindle would not download new books being delivered to it. Wifi worked fine for accessing the amazon store or general web, but samples/books never arrived.
Tried reboots and various things, in the end had to do a factory reset and reboot it before the books were delivered and the archive showed something other than empty. @sirmaru if you can log into your wifi router, have a look at what is set for the reserved dhcp pool. Often routers reserve just a handful of ips which limits how many devices can be active at the same time. Last edited by JoeD; 11-11-2011 at 05:47 AM. |

Hey guys, I'm still having this problem...usually not a problem since I usually leave wifi off. I only turn on once in awhile to download new books. Just bought a bunch of books from amazon and I can't connect to wifi to download the books. When I scan for available networks, my network is not listed...but I know my router is working because my xbox is working with wifi...I've tried turning wifi off for a few minutes, turning back on and syncing but still can't connect and my network is not showing up on the list!
