Mmm.........
Not having any experience, or specific need for, the medium, I wouldn't mind colour - but wouldn't pay extra for it - as long as it didn't compromise the black & white performance, if you see what I mean.

Which a colour screen I saw a while ago suffered from, can't think what it was on..........

For comics, tech manuals, textbooks, etc color can make a big difference. There is more out there to read than novels.

Military vehicle guides are not enhanced by being made larger. They need to fit in a cargo pocket.



The short battery life and poor usability outside in the sun make tablets a non starter.



Certain technical manuals could also use color. Again, for military use a screen that works in direct sunlight is a non-negotiable requirement.

One of the things I like about my reader is that I can carry lots and lots of books on motorcycle trips. One of the books I carry is a shop manual for the bike. The paper manuals are 8.5" x 11" and about an inch thick, and motorcycles have only so much luggage space. One of the pages I refer to most often, in a motorcycle manual, is the wiring diagram. Black and white wiring diagrams are awful to look at.

Today's eInk screens aren't really black on white; they're medium gray on pale gray. I'm hoping for color eInk screens that can do real black on white.

Right now people who like to read books buy e-ink readers. People who read magazines, comics, etc... buy tablets.
People who read both? They need to buy both devices (like I did). So yeah, a color (real colors, not that Triton crap) e-ink reader would simplify my life.

What everyone else said...

I personally am somewhat indifferent to colour eInk, as I am not very interested in either magazines or comics, but for those who are, it will obviously be a superior experience to the current grayscale readers.

Sorry to burst the BUBBLE...but has anyone actually looked into the ability to actually make color eink. Without a backlight behind the eink it is not easy to make colours beyond black and white. My mate who works a bit in the field says it is difficult. As for Comics...maybe.. bugt Manga...NOT...in Japan 99 percent of Manga is in Black and white and most Japanese don't complain...they just keep reading, reading,reading and reading it. To me Color is way over hyped...just my three yen....

Anything is difficult until you know how to do it. I'm sure it was difficult to make a color TV back when all we had was black and white TVs. I'm sure it was difficult to make LCDs when all we had were Cathode Ray Tubes. I'm sure it was difficult to trasmitt voice through the airwaves (radio) before someone figured that out too.

No, I want an ereader to fit a jacket pocket that I can take anywhere - B&W e-ink is great... I want a colour device for comics and tech manuals but I want that to be around comic size, around 10" is nice... whoops, two requirements not compatible but my ereader and tablet meet needs exactly so could care less about colour e-ink at the moment... ask in a few years when it's actually working in a commercially suitable mode and may think again but currently the tech isn't there for reasonably priced devices that would happily replace existing ones... and I'd still need two to meet my physical form requirements...

I have no interest in color e-ink. If there are pics in color that I would want to see, I'd sooner just look at them on my computer or iPad.

So, you do want a device that displays color. You actually have one, your iPad. however, if you eInk reader actually did display color I suspect you might use it to view color content.

Really, some of you people sound like those folks that used to shout...
