Great points. Well, I sent the old unit in today, and they will get no argument from me if they come back and charge me. Of course, they did mention that they saw I had a Fire on order - don't know if that influened their decision or not.

I hate when that happends. I have a similar story: before coming to the Kindle I had an Aluratek Libra Pro. One day I was comming back from the gym, last winter, and I stuffed it in my coat pocket and walked one block to my office. When I finally got to my desk the pressure on the Libra Pro had snapped the screen in half. I hate when that happends. So far I have been a lot more careful with my Kindle, I have had it longer then either of my pre-kindles.

Today, I accidentally dropped something on my new Kindle, the sound that came forth was between a clink and a thud. I was mortified. As a result, a speck of grey now appears on the screen. Should I keep the Kindle or replace it? Is it okay to let CS know about this, and to request a new or refurbished Kindle? Will CS refund international shipping costs when I return the damaged Kindle to them? Thank you for your help.

Your best bet, in my opinion, is to be completely honest with Kindle Customer Service (not the normal Amazon Customer Service), and see what they'll do for you.
Only they will be able to tell you what they will or won't be able to do, but don't be too pessimistic. |
