PJ123 - re going through 200+ books to put into collections. There is a bit of a faster way. If you know the title of what you want you can search from the main list then proceed as normal to add to a collection.

If you're at the starting point and have multiple books you want to put into any one collection, start the process and it'll take you to the first book in your list. Mine right now has 36 pages of books I have to go through. To help speed it up rather than going one page at a time, tap the bottom of the screen where it says you're on page 1 of 36. A slider will come up and you can move the slider to get to an area you want faster.

For example: mine are sorted by title. When I want to add books it starts at A. If the next book I want to add starts with P I use the slider to get to the P books, tap the screen and then select what I want. If the next book starts with Z I repeat the process. If the next book is close to P then I just tap the next page arrow.

Does that help explain? I found it to be faster. I was having issues going through every page to make collections and delete unwanted books on the reader. It kept crashing as I was trying to do things and I'd have to start again.

Is there anyway to use folders instead of collections on the T1?
I'm thinking about buying a Sony and I know it can be done with PRS+ for the older models but I was hoping that Sony would add that feature for T1.

Thanks for all the help! I will try the method of Shopaholic, which sounds more straightforward.

Thanks for the replies. Now it's definitely looking like the best option for replacing my late, lamented 505 – too bad house repairs need to come first; oh! the joys of home ownership. 8o)

That was going to be my suggestion because that's exactly what I did on my 505.

If the book already had any tags then I removed most or all of them and added my own to keep my Collections list manageably short (I think the whole list was: fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, non-fiction, and adventure (that's most of them, at least); plus series titles (Tarzan, Oz, etc)). The only issue I ran into was with my 505 was that "Collections" listed several tags that weren't on any of my books and I couldn't figure out how to get rid of them. It worked just great otherwise.

If you turn on Automatic Management in Calibre, when you connect the reader, it will eliminate any collections that have no books (removed tags, etc).

I thought Calibre and the T1 were not yet compatible regarding collections?

edit: looks like Kolenka's code was integrated recently so hopefully it will be available in the next calibre release!

Sync means exactly that. Everything on your computer software will be put on your reader exactly as it is on your computer. It's ok if you have a small number of books but a right royal PITA if you have a lot of them! I don't sync mine and life seems to be better. I haven't chucked my unit into the wall. It's still in one piece. lol
But that's not exactly correct. You don't need to sync EVERYTHING. You can un-check 'all books' and select specific folders to sync. I don't own a T1, but I have sync'd my 350 and 950 using the new software - and I was able to sync only some collections. As a matter of fact, whenever I tried to sync my entire library (about 1,200 epubs and about 200 PDFs), the software would just freeze.

Right Vxf but what about those of use who don't want all books within the entire collection? It's a PITA. Not too bad when you have a small number of books but when you're talking several hundred it's a major PITA.

Not only that, once you sync a collection to your reader you cannot manually add to that collection on the reader. It's classed as synced & there's nothing you can do with it. For anyone that wants any semblance of organization within their collections on their reader, manual is the best way to go. Others besides myself have already come to the same conclusion.

That means using Windows Explorer or the Mac equivalent and drag & drop the wanted books to the reader & then make manual collections on the reader itself. Then books can be added or removed as needed.

LOL @ Kolenka!! I very briefly played with Calibre when I had my 300 & 350. I couldn't get the hang of it and stuck with the Sony software which worked perfectly fine for me. The new Sony software - not a snowball's chance in heck!! I'm running manual. I just may have to give Calibre a second play because the Sony one is just not happening.

I dropped by the Sony store today to chat with the guy that sold me the unit. He has and uses a 300 so he claims to be familiar with the units & the software. I explained briefly the differences in the software. He didn't understand why it would do that so then I showed him my reader. The only Synced collection on my T1 is the Sony Documentation and it perfectly illustrates the frustration of not being able to add to or delete from collections that have been synced with the software.

I showed him the greyed out stuff that I can't even select that collection. He tells me to keep pressing it. Ok bud! And because I touched the screen too quickly and too many times for it to handle it crashed. He reads the error on the unit & says 'oh my!'. LOL You got that right!! He says he's going to bring it up with the tech guys. I don't think it'll get anywhere but you never know.

I will give Calibre a go and see what happens. Thanks for your efforts in helping those frustrated T1 owners with bald spots. LOL

You might want to wait until the driver for the T-1 is refined before you go whole hog into calibre. Don't want any new frustrations surfacing. But while your waiting for the driver to be refined install it and start becoming familiar with adding books.

Good Luck.

I'm no Calibre expert, but what would you be using it for? I find tagging useful in balancing out the transfers to the device by genre (a couple of mysteries, a couple of memoirs ...), more than searching by collection "in the wild" (as it were).
