That sounds pretty bizarre, on the iOS version you can read content already synced to the device, without having a network connection.

On Android, you can read the content already synced without the need for the network connection, but when you open the app it checks for a connection... and won't proceed without it. I had to go out the café the other day, get a signal, then as soon as I was in the app I could go back inside, losing my signal and read happily.

There don't appear to be any options that I can change, however I've just tried it again just now (by putting the phone into airplane mode) and it worked fine. However, I have used Zinio already today. Either it checks intermittently or they've updated the app.
