Future Shop in Edmonton has the T1's coming in on the 19th at 169$

At any rate, I've read on another thread that the prs-t1 seems to have better contrast than any other Sony readers to date. I've read the same about the new kindle readers as well. I haven't read that either ebook reader has been advertised as having better contrast. Could it be an optical illusion? Does eink fade over time? Or is the contrast really better? Any ideas?

I will be hitting the mall tomorrow in search of a PRS-T1. Wish me luck!

If it indeed has better contrast (as perceived by me !!) I will buy one as well...I returned a 650 and went with the Kindle because of the contrast...I like touch screen, and my Ipad doesn't quite work in the sunlight !!

The screen is plastic, too. This is true for both the T1 and the 650.

There's a wide variation between individual eInk screens. Some people have said that the new Kindle has better contrast than the older K3; others have said that they see no difference. There's really no reason that there should be a difference - they're using the same screen. I suspect it's no more than a variation between individual screens.

I suspected that might be the case, that or the use of different fonts creating the illusion of more contrast.

Or even just a better raster engine driving the whole thing. Amasis on the Nook Touch vs Amasis on the PRS-650 via PRS+ is obviously different with the Sony getting better contrast. Anti-aliasing on the Nook winds up with a lot more grey pixels than on the 650, even with the same screen. Some folks don't mind it, and the difference is not huge, but it is noticable.

Yes, a different font rendering engine can certainly make a tremendous different to the appearance of a screen. As can the actual choice of fonts, and how well those fonts are optimized for the screen.

You're getting ahead of yourself. Read it again. It's expected in the warehouse 10/02/2011. That doesn't mean it's in the stores at that time. It'd be nice but somehow I doubt it very much.

I ended up checking out a local Best Buy today (I had to run an errand and it was on the way), and one of the employees told me that the ebook reader might be in stock on Tuesday. Not that I'd bet the farm on it, but I can hope

For what its worth..My wife ordered one from Best Buy Sunday...They said there were 1900 Units at their warehouse in Orlando (Im in Tampa) and all the stores would have stock on Thursday.....

I called the Best Buy near me & the guy got mad at me. What new one? What are you talking about??? Um...the Sony T1. It comes in black, red and white. NO! We don't have it. Why would we have it, we still have some of the other ones.

???? this guy just frustrated me to no end. I knew I shouldn't have called. I was quickly reminded why I avoid buying in Canada. No customer service.

So I asked him if that meant they won't carry the iPhone 5 because they still have stock of the iPhone 4. LOL He hung up on me.
