I'd guess that one factor that hasn't been addressed much is how careful the reader is with their ereader. If it's dropped often or accidentally submerged in water then it won't last as long as it might otherwise. I've had my Kindle3 just under 7 months (March 11 2011) and haven't had any problems with it to speak of. Of course I bought a case for it right off as a way of protecting it against falls and keep it safely away from water as well. I might add a Kindle fire on eventually, but my K3 is still working very well.

I bought my K3 last November, and I take it almost everywhere with me. If there's a chance I might use it, it goes with me.
I also bought a case for it right away, just to be safe. So far, so good. I really like my Kindle, it's the perfect gadget for a heavy reader. |

We have both a K1 and K2 (daily use) that are still working just as well as day 1 :-)

My second K2 (first one was dropped on a concrete floor and cracked the screen) arrived in November 2009. Sold to a close friend when I purchased my DX. She's still using it.

My K3 was bought November of last year and it still looks like the day it was bought. No Rubbed keys or anything but I don't use the keyboard much. So I expect it to last a long time.
I don't take mine out of the house and it sits on it's own shelf. I keep mine in a lighted cover when not in use. I've only taken it on one trip to the In laws and it was transported in a plastic tote with my clothes. We didn't want our neighbors to know that we were going on a trip so instead of suitcases we used a tote. ![]() I am known to baby my stuff but I think the K3 could take more abuse and still work fine but don't ask me to do it. ![]() |
