Question to Obsessed2 or whoever can answers this...I tried repeatedly to get the Ermine update to work, with no success. I know I followed the instructions to the letter, as well as having a tech friend attempt it. So the question is this...DOES THE DEVICE HAVE TO BE ROOTED in order for the update to work???? That is the only thing i haven't attempted to do is ROOT first then load the update. Any ideas??

The device does not need to be rooted. Unfortunately a lot of new owners seem to be having troubles with the upgrade due to no fault of their own. The upgrade seems like it can be a little finicky. What version of Dingo is on the device? Press MENU on the tablet, Settings, About eDGe (Android version). If it is 1.13 you may want to try upgrading to Dingo 1.6 before attempting Ermine. Some users have also reported problems using a 2GB or 4GB USB and were able to get it to work using a smaller capacity drive.

If you were following the procedure in the Resource Sticky it was meant to help eliminate bad media, file name etc. However, to avoid confusion I am removing that procedure from the Sticky and replacing it with the official upgrade instructions as they were provided from Entourage. I have also attached that PDF here.

I had the same problem with EE (large eDGe)‎. I used the serial port as console interface and linux's minicom as terminal emulator, ran the diagnostics test and got a message that the memory integrity test failed..error code. When I attempted to reflash Ermine with Dingo, it showed following error message:



UPDATE_DEVICE = edge
TARGET_DEVICE = edge
BUILD_TYPE = user

************************************************** *******************
current: Ermine 0.9
new: Dingo 1.11
MISMATCH: aborting update"

************************************************** *******************


and then reboots.


I deleted the following comparative query in "update.zip\update.sh":

Question....Tried all the steps to get the upgrade to Ermine with no success. So, Does the device need to be ROOTED in order for the upgrade to work?

I Currently have DINGO 1.13, Firmware version 1.6, Kernel version 2.6.29. I believe I tried to go to 1.6 with no success, this seemed to be the only downgrade file that I found would work. I will attempt it once again for the 50th time!lol Here's another question, does it really make a big difference in apps that you can download, if I finally get the ermine 2.2? I was able to get a Nook and Kindle app on the current Dingo version and some games. The only other apps I would like to use are Sirius/XM, HBO GO, and Netflix, and if possoble the Android Market, which most of these apps seem to to have to be dowloaded from. Any thoughts?

The eDGe does NOT need to be rooted in order to install Ermine. Do NOT unzip the file, just rename it update.zip

OK, all joking aside. I know it is frustrating but you can get it to work. Many other owners have experienced the pain and those that stuck with it also experienced the joy.


Are you using a USB thumb drive or a microSD card? Some owners who had no luck with a thumb drive went SD and it worked. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...emusan&page=13 (see posts # 183 and # 188)


OR

they tried another USB stick: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...=135583&page=2 (see post # 21)

Make sure the thumb drive is empty. Some USB drives have a proprietary bootloader that will interfere with the process.

I'm using a USB 4gb, formated to FAT32. Previously tried the sd card, got no luck with that either I'll keep trying Thanks for all your help!!! And all the others who have posted suggestions

Try a smaller thumb drive if available. Make sure the thumb drive doesn't have a bootloader program like JD Secure. Also, the instructions from Entourage say to hold the MENU and ROTATE buttons for 10 seconds and after 1-2 minutes you should see the updating software message. Check out this thread:
