I am sure there are many who feel the same way, and Amazon realizes this also which is why they offer readers with and without ads. I don't like ads either. I normally pay for an app in order to avoid seeing them.

Again, agree with your main point, I would not want any ads at all on mine, but that's not intrusive and won't affect your reading session whatsoever. |

Seems most people don't have a problem that, but I personally don't like to forced to watch advertisements on any medium so the KSO would not even be an option for me. |

Ack, bad memories! And the book would always want to flip open to that page because the ad paper was so much stiffer than the rest of the book.

Please tell me these "reports" of how happy people are at using these ads are coming from somewhere other than Amazon.com

They are coming from our users here at MobileRead. Many people seem very happy to not only get a cheaper device, but to get useful money-saving deals, too. As has been said, you don't see the advertising while you're reading the book; just on the "screen saver" when the Kindle is asleep, and at the bottom of the library page.

Cool. Just wanted to be sure it wasn't coming from the source of the ads itself lol.

I was reading a pocket book, turned page to see first ad in a book and followed my first impulse tearing it out without thinking so I could continue reading. I don't smoke or like cigarettes.

I can't imagine that I would like the ads, regardless of savings. For me, the deal breaker is lack of .epub support. Until that is included in a Kindle, I don't see them as real competition in my decision of an ebook reader. I just sold my 1st Gen Nook recently and am reading on a Dell Streak 7 Android tablet right now. I don't particularly like how the backlighting makes my eyes tired or how I can't read outside, so I am looking at a Nook Touch or Sony T1. Kindle isn't even on my radar.

There seems to be alot of misunderstanding for how the ads are presented on the SO version of kindle. Kindle does not show any ads at all when you're reading a book. I myself couldn't care less about the ads appearing on screen saver or the bottom when I'm about to select a book to read. And personally I like it when I see some offers i'm interested it in and have my screen saver updated from time to time, not particularly fond of dead authors pictures... One could argue that 75% of the Nook STR's home screen is B&N ad suggesting which book you should buy next.
Having said that, the Nook STR's hardware itself is pretty decent reader, IMO it's B&N's backend that's lacking compare to Amazon. And that's why my Nook STR is going back to the store and the Kindle stays. |
