As soon as Transparent Aluminum is invented this broken glass screen substrate problem should disappear.

I have not had a problem with any of my Kindles (my first one is still going in the hands of its third owner), but fortunately they are getting cheap enough now that I would just buy another one immediately if I had an issue that was not within warranty. Given the amount of hours I've used mine, it's one of the most economical electronic devices I've ever owned.

The description below sounds distinctly like a broken screen.

The only problem I ever had with my Kindle 3 was when my 3 year old daughter tore the cover off the device and broke the plastic at the sides. Amazon was good enough to replace it for me when I called half in tears.
