No one's mentioned George Eliot yet (or I missed it). I think she's a natural for the Trollope fan.

Lots already mentioned here that I'd recommend (Eliot, Thackeray, etc). Have you tried the Brontes? Given the authors you mention, you might enjoy Anne Bronte's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Closer to Elizabeth Gaskell's than to Charlotte's or Emily's work - in fact Charlotte seems to have disapproved of it rather strongly.

In fact, I wrote a paper on "Tenant of Wildfell Hall" in college and I love the Brontës, though again, it's been years. I actually like Ann best of the three, though I do love me some "Jane Eyre."

Yes, I do think Anne's sadly under-appreciated, overshadowed as she is by her more famous sisters, and with a life even briefer than Emily's.

If you like "ripping yarns", you really must try Sir Henry Rider Haggard. His complete works are available here at MR in 16 volumes. I'm sure you've heard of "King Solomon's Mines", "She", etc.

The Woman in White and The Moonstone are available on the MR Library, as are many books by Stanley J. Weyman and Raphael Sabatini.

Crutledge has recently uploaded a whole bunch of George Manville Fenn books in the library here. He was an author of that era, so might give one a try. Wikipedia says Dickens liked his stuff

John Galsworthy wrote a great series called "The Forsyte Saga" about a Victorian family passing bumpily into the 20th century. The first series is here on mobilereads, and if you like it, the rest of the series is also available in the mobileread library. He won the Nobel Prize for this series.
I second issybird's suggestion of George Eliot. "Middlemarch" is one of the great books of the era. |

I am currently reading Flora Thompson's Lark Rise To Candleford.
You might give it a look. |
