Nice to see that others are irritated by the glare of chromium buttons on the 350.
I use a strip of Leocoplast over the buttons: removes glare, durable, replaceable, and does not interfere with use of buttons. From the look of the youtube videos I'll need to buy a new roll for the T1. |

I didn't even notice those buttons on my 950 until I read this thread. Then I focused on them and they are highly reflective, but since then I haven't noticed them again. Maybe the longer screen changes the focus me.

I don't know either -- maybe something like UK's Elastoplast ??? Doesn't sound like a very attractive addition.
Think I prefer shiny keys, which I have to admit I hardly notice. Maybe it's the lack of UK sun. |

The buttons on my black 650 do not bother me.

Come to think of it, I've never suffered from smudgy screens, frankly, but if you do have constantly oily/greasy fingers [lay off the burgers ?] surely you've solved the problem of the glare from the HUGE ( ? ) buttons ?
Gosh, I must say, though, we are definitely looking for faults - before one's even been captured and trained yet.... |

It is a medicinal tape produced in Germany. Very traditional sticky tape on a fabric.

The blue PRS-350 has black glossy buttons that reflect the light from my LED light, and sometimes the overhead lights on buses. Drives me nuts. I cut out a small rectangular piece of black card that slots under a flap at the bottom of Tuff-Luv case (it's hard to describe). I can't use the buttons while it's there but I don't generally need to if I'm just simply reading in the dark.
As the glare is bad enough just from non-matte buttons on the current Sony readers, I for one, will not be considering the PRS-T1 unless they release a matte version. I can't use tablets or enjoy watching other people's televisions because of gloss. My laptop has a matte screen (because of it's age really), and when it comes to replacing it I will be hunting out what little matte options are available (business models?). Sony clearly does not listen to it's customers and the customers of other devices. Even with a massive price drop (relative to the previous models) it will pay a hefty price for not doing so. |

I don't notice the shiny buttons in my 650 and 350, and never noticed them on my 600

After a brief bout with the Nook Simple Touch that lasted a few days, I settled with the PRS-T1 as my first e-reader, after much research into all options.
My reasoning was simple: for the money, this model has the best features available. It does something I consider basic that the Nook lacked, the ability to choose what page to go to (ha!), and it is much better at PDFs, which is important to me. Upon buying it, despite being overjoyed that the software worked as I wanted, I found the shiny bezel ludicrous. Sony is so obsessed with "sexy" Playstation-type aesthetic that they let it contradict the very point of an e-ink display. So much for the selling point of being able to read in the sun! Simply, it's one of the stupidest design choices I've seen in any piece of hardware, ever. Not exaggerating. I would have taken it back to buy something else, but this was the only thing that did what I wanted for under $100. My solution? I covered the entire bezel in black electrical tape. It actually works quite well -my father couldn't tell I did it until I told him so. I was able to cover the whole thing unlike a skin, which for $20 will still leave spots for light to reflect at you. I even covered the button labels, and drew them over with a pen. I might recover it and do something nicer, though. And by the way, I also made an angled hands-free stand for it out of a few legos. |
