And here I was like a dumbass wondering what kind of high-brow books you guys read that requires constant dictionary prowess, without for a single moment thinking about ESL people. Duh. You learn something new every day, or at least the World shows it to you and it's up to you to learn from it

For the record, if I used the dictionary frequently I would also be annoyed that there is an additional click required.

I'm reading the Game of Thrones series right now, and find myself constantly using the dictionary when it comes to terms describing medieval architecture and wardrobe. I just wish "roysterer" was in there, I still have no idea what it means.

Alternate spelling of roisterer.

I dislike the extra tap as well, it feels clumsy and obviously the dictionary will be used by far more people than translate. Bad user experience decision.

Best definition I've seen so far in the built-in dictionary:

Quote:
pejorative

n. a pejorative word or phrase
Gee, thanks.

I find that all the time, too.
I can't wait to find this:

I am a native english speaker, and I still find myself using the dictionary quite often for certain books (classical literature for example). The only time I have ever used the translator function was when I tried reading The Little Prince in French.

It's simply good software design to not force the user to take any more steps than necessary to perform an action, and it would be trivial for the Kobo developers to add a separate button for translate.
