NOOK doesn't track you; it's not Kindle. Unless you turn on the page-sync option, B&N has no idea what you're doing with your NOOK. Of course, if you turn off the Wi-Fi, there's no way they can know what you're doing. Also of course, B&N knows which e-books you bought from them, whether you registered or not.

By the way, there is an easter-egg workaround for using a NOOK 2nd Edition without registering it. I don't remember it because I don't have one of those, but try searching for "skip oobe" (out-of-box experience).
