Yes, I have a set price that I never exceed for eBooks. If an eBook costs more, I find an alternate source. |

I have a set price, but there are times where I exceed it. For example, I recently bought the Sword of Sharnarra trilogy. It was over my limit, by quite a bit, but it had the first 3 books.

I don't have a set price, but if the ebook costs more than the physical book I will not buy the ebook (or the physical book).
I do however, only spend so much on books, so over the last year I have purchased fewer books than I did the year before. I've also bought more cheap non-established authors than I have before. |

i generally won't pay more than $5 unless the book is hard to come by otherwise. if its an author i know i'll pay up to $8, anything more and i'll just order a hard copy. i only read indie and small press so its not often my ceiling is broken. $3 is my preferred sweet spot though, especially if its a first time author.

I usually won't go above $5-8. Next step is check the library. If it's not at the library in one form or other, I'll just wait for the price to drop, or if I really REALLY want it I'll buy the hard copy, like with the new Maisie Dobbs book.
My TBR list is also huge so I don't really feel the loss if I end up not buying a book here or there. |

I don't have a set price, in that I've never consciously decided "this much and no higher", but looking at the price I've paid for books I've read since the start of 2010, it seems I have a 'de facto' set price, in that of the 283 books in that list, I've only paid more than $8 for five of them (<2%), more than $7 for nine of them (~3%), and more than $6 for 22 of them (<8%).
I think I must have an upper limit of $8/£5. Any more than that and I won't buy, except in exceptional circumstances. Last edited by pdurrant; 09-14-2011 at 02:39 PM. Reason: typo |

The ebooks I buy are chosen by how useful or how enjoyable I think it is. I still prefer paper for a majority of choices. The ebooks has to be lower than the paper. I am open to change. May challenge with is that it is easier to share or loan or give a paper book to family, friends, colleagues. Not everyone I associate with has an ebook (yet). Sharing the books is important to me.
Price is based on what I can afford at a given time. For example one books I bought hardcover is 40 USD. One ebook is 7.99 USD. Last edited by T.D.02809; 09-14-2011 at 11:04 AM. Reason: add a sentence |

My upper limit is $10 because that's the average price of pocket books over here. Until recently I still bought physical books and my rule then was "I'll buy the cheapest version, ebook or pocket book."
Unfortunately it's more difficult now that I've decided to go all digital, I'll probably start boycotting ebooks that cost more than their physical counterparts and/or cost more than $10. Boycotting is too strong a word, I'll wait until they drop below $10 before I'll buy them. There, that's more accurate. |

Above $10 I think pretty carefully. Strange because I used to routinely spend double that on p books without blinking.

http://www.ereaderiq.com/pricewatch/ You put your desired (Kindle) books in a wishlist on Amazon and this place lets you import the list. Then they email you when the price drops. This is great even if you don't buy Kindle books because -- due to Agency Pricing -- when the price goes down at Amazon, it generally goes down everywhere. ![]() |

Funny really, I spent a substantial amount of time moving my wishlists from a little app I had made myself to amazon's wishlists only yesterday so your timing couldn't have been better. |

I am desperately waiting for Jasper Fforde's ebooks to drop below the pbook price. I have been waiting a long time, and have resigned myself to the prospect of waiting a few years. Penguin is especially bad at pricing ebooks higher than their paperbacks. |

If I'm just browsing for random ebooks that look interesting, I won't pay more than $10, and it has to look awfully good to get me to go over $5. But if I'm wanting one specific book, I'll pay more. I have a few authors I am crazy about and I'll happily pay more for their work.
What I will not do, is sign up for a waiting list at the library. If I can't check it out right now, I'll either buy it, or skip to some other book, and maybe get it next time if it's checked in. There are always more fish in the sea, so why pine for the fish that are not in the sea today? |
