I thought I was only one in the world to think angry bird is stupid and too childish. And many of the games I have played are of type:
1. Play, gain points. (Optionally buy points In-App purchase, I never do that silly thing)
2. Spend points on upgrades.
3. Play against stronger enemy, gain more points.
4. Repeat this for all the levels.
5. Last 2-3 levels: If you are low on upgrades, go play previous levels again. Then come back with full upgrades.
6. "Thanks for playing."

This format repeats itself in different candycoats.

The other simpler game type is MANY levels that uses same thinking skills again and again, just a different way. We call the type: Puzzle games. (Angry birds, Cut the rope etc.) They bore the heck out of me.

Few games are outstanding with psychomotor skills and coordination movements involved.

Nothing beats reading. Every book has completely different game. The game of anticipation, the game of suspense, the colorful and extremely varied imaginations, the "never put it down" induction, and most of all the integration of small bits of the story in ourselves at the pace with everyone's mental processing.

I'm not into those kinds of games either, but I only mentioned them as they are usually touted as the most popular, downloaded, or purchased.

Bejeweled was fun for me, but I think I was playing it for a different reason than a majority of players. I always wanted to get the 5 jewels in a row to create that super jewel. But, I remember that Bejeweled did have a "puzzle" version in addition and was a little different from the repetitive 3-matching style.

I'm more of a console gamer, although I have absolutely no interest in games where you have to "level up" or "turn-based battle" games. Too boring for me. I love the Metal Gear Solid series (not MGS Ac!d) or Syphon Filter and more casual games like Little Big Planet, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, etc.

I remember one part of the 1st Metal Gear Solid

where you had to unplug controller #1 mid-game and re-plug it into controller #2's port to defeat the bad guy who could read your mind. And, they didn't tell you to do this in the game. You had to figure it out yourself.

Wow, I was hooked.

You're not. Not by a long shot.

What an awesome series.

When I was still young, I have played away entire nights... First with Civilization, and also with Betrayal at Krondor (hearing bird sounds and finding out they aren't from the game...) These days, I don't do that anymore. Not because I don't want to, but rather because I can't . I love games that are longer, where I can immerse myself into the story/game play. But then, I also love the longer novels...
Short time to finish the game.

But then again, I like short stories and novellas over long novels...

I spent just short of 9 hours on DeusEx last night but I'm paying for it now. Got up early to watch Scotland at the rugby and now all I can think about is sleep. Unfortunately my wife has other ideas. I'm talking about gardening. I'm on holiday this week which is why these hours are manageable but I'm getting too old for this at 46. To cap it all this is my second run-through of DeusEx and I've been trying to get through without any fatalities. I've now found myself up against the second boss and I'm not going to get past her with the tools I have at my disposal. Damn!

Is that Deus Ex or Deus Ex:Human Evolution? I plan to play the first through again, before starting on the second...

Or I could grab my Thief CD's again and see if I can get it to work on my XP...

It's Human Evolution I'm playing and it's actually the third in the series. It's a great game but sometimes very frustrating. The second in the series, Invisible War, is lousy.

My favorite type of game is one that involves solving a mystery. One of my favorites is "Shadow Of Destiny" where the game starts off with your character being murdered. Your goal in the same is to find out and remove the root cause of your own murder by the use of time travel.
