Hello.

I could connect using the serial method.
One question : After connecting and after pressing the start button on the PE, I started typing the keyboard keys, to get the uboot prompt. But I did not see the prompt, instead it starts to boot. I did this 2/3 times, with the same result. How exactly should this be done.
Later, I somehow at last got it by first typing and entering "run boot_user" in termite. Then pressed the PE start button, then started typing keys. This somehow worked once.

However, I still have problem. The update.zip file that is with me seems to be for edge, not pocket, as it is behaving the same way, with the reversed "entourage edge" logo.

Could anyone point me (or send me) to the correct golden update for pocket edge? In fact I believe I downloaded this update.zip from the same "darkgrue's thread", the download link currently seem to be down.

Thankyou!

Hi Z. Yes, it is normal to have to start typing things BEFORE turning on your device to succeed at getting into u-boot. I just hit m-enter a bunch of times.

The files are darkgrue's thread are marked wrong. That's probably why we've ended up with so many people in this position.

Accordingly, I've uploaded a NEW HELLBENT for the POCKET EDGE only. This Hellbent is Ermine 1.01.002. You will be the first tester, so please let me know if you have any problems.

Ermine 1.01.002 Hellbent for the POCKET EDGE

Everybody else: DO NOT INSTALL THIS UNLESS YOUR DEVICE IS ALREADY B0RKED. IT DOES NOT DO THE VERSION CHECK! That's why it's called "Hellbent".

One question:
The zip file has another directory ermine-1.01.002/ which has the update files.
Can I use the zip file directly by renaming it to update.zip or should I use the directory within ("ermine-1.01.002") to create update.zip and use.

Good question - you can either rename the folder to be the same as the folder in other update.zips and generate an update.zip from that, or wait for me to get home and double-check.

It is working again.

I couldn't wait for your reply. I gave it a try.

As I said, there is a directory inside the zip file. The first time when I used it as it is it complained about "update.sh not found" (attachment: first_test_unsuccesful.txt). Then I put the contents into the root of update.zip and this time it updated successfully (attachment: second_test_succesful.txt).
I noticed some warning and error messages. I am not sure whether it indicates anything wrong in the system due to my previous tweakings of PE or they are ignorable. I am attaching the log of termite, which will be useful for your checking. There is a reboot after the system update and I continued the termite till I setup the touch screen. The google service account setup appeared but since I don't have the wireless here I skipped it and then I shut down. Will connect to wireless at home and check.

Thank you very very much!

Pl. Let me know about your analysis, and if there is anything wrong.

I just discovered that I couldn't write or select anything on my reader screen. I tried to calibrate reader screen, but it doesn't respond when I touch the cross-hair with the stylus pen. I am not sure if this is related to the ermine software that I installed or due to some other apps that I installed subsequently. I could install a few apps after applying the market fix as mentioned in the forum. I am not sure about which caused the problem. I forgot to check the reader screen initially when I installed the ermine and before doing the market fix. Anyone facing similar problem?

It is entirely possible that the direct flash to ermine will cause problems because you might be missing something from dingo. If so, you probably should flash back to dingo golden, and then upgrade to ermine.

I flashed dingo (golden update), but it is in the same state. The reader screen shows"Initializing" dialog until the PE completely boots up. Then it flashes the default page and a second later, automatically goes into the calibration mode. It is here it stays forever. No touch response. PE is really intriguing thing!

Update

Just to let you know, The ereader screen is working.
I had been using a different plastic stylus pen (It never occurred to me that would be the problem) that I had and suddenly I thought that the stylus pen of PE may be specially needed for this. I used it and the cross-hair for calibration now responded!
I looked at the PE's stylus, it is black and there is also a button (which looked like a fake button to me) on the side. Is this stylus something special one, magnetic or something?

Ah, yes it is a special stylus. On the LCD side, any resistive stylus (or your fingernail) will work fine. The e-Ink side uses different stylus technology.
