There's something I do not quite understand. When you sideload eBooks to the KT, all Calibre seems to be doing is copy the files to the device main storage or the memory card, possibly arranging them in neat directories and the DB part happens when you disconnect from the computer and the KT goes in "processing data" mode, so I do not really see how Calibre could be affected by a DB structure change...

That's probably true, but Calibre can also do other things like show you the full library from the Kobo, delete books from the Kobo and manage the Shortlist. It may be those type of operations that need a driver update.

Effectively, if calibre can manipulate the Kobo DB directly, then yes a change of DB structure would impact Calibre. And I wouldn't know since I've only been transferring eBooks so far.

But you got me interested. I tried to look up the shortlist management option and drew a blank. And further inspection of the interface didn't help either...

There was a bug about this reported on the Calibre bug website but now it's seemed to have disappeared? Either way, it's pretty well just a waiting game at this point (I hope). I'm sure there's already some work being done about it and hopefully it'll be fixed relatively soon. And if not well then I'll have to unfortunately use Adobe Digital Editions. But, I have faith that there will be a fix relatively soon. For now though I know the pain because I can't add any books to my Kobo.

I have been using Calibre exclusively since upgrading to 1.9.10 and haven't had any problems at all. I have loaded quite a few books as I was annoyed by only having a handful of books on my Kobo (a necessity due to the Storage Error and multiple resets.) I now have about 250 books on my Kobo all loaded via Calibre since the upgrade.

I have not had any problems loading books with Calibre 0.8.17 after installing 1.9.10. I have loaded 1000 books at one time and KT updated data base in reasonable amount of time. Just be sure to eject KT before disconnecting. After deleting books from KT I empty trash before ejecting KT. Have not tried Calibre 0.8.18 yet.

Well, I bit the bullet and updated to 1.9.10. I was getting the Storage Error every time I powered on the KT, and I didn't want to add any new books in case it screwed up my database even more.

So far I've just tried putting one book on it with Calibre after the update, and it seems ok. My library shows up ok, and there's no Storage Error. I am getting the cut-off line of text at the bottom of the page, but that's a known problem with 1.9.10 and Calibre ebooks.
