a) does not cause any problems. b) Seeing as how someone went to the effort to actually create that behaviour, without doing deep research into why, I can only assume it is to work around some other problem people were having with those directives in the css. |

FWIW reducing the font size one step has completely stopped the cut off text problem from happening for me.
I can't guarantee this will work for everyone tho. |

Making any changes to the formatting will re-flow the text for that session. it's likely to re-appear, however, when you exit to home screen and return to the book. (Of if you power off the kobo rather than sleep.)

b. It was done that way because Kovid feels that all @ directives should be in each XML flow even though that is not as neat and easy to edit as being in the CSS. That's not all. That is but one example. What else happens is some of the CSS entries get converted into calibre1, calibre2, calibre3, etc. So if you know how the CSS is setup and want to edit it, you have to then go and figure out how this is now done. And sometimes, it can throw off the formatting. |

I've always had "Show Margin Page Numbers" off and it still happened to me.

But like I said earlier, reducing the font size (as someone else suggested) completely removes the issue anyway. I'm guess certain fomatting combinations generate the problem and probably certain different combinations of formatting stops the problem (and varies case to case). Hmmmm....that's weird because for me changing the font size worked for that specific reading session. But as soon as I powered off the Kobo or put it to sleep the issue came back. Gotta love software bugs.

yes that IS odd. But I definitely changed the font size one step down, went out, ( I even turned it off and back on and went back in just now) went back into the same book and the problem is completely gone... weird.. Oh well.
Will be nice to get the firmware update tho as I prefer a slightly larger font, but I can't be bothered messing with it to get the magic combination of formatting settings where it doesn't happen with a larger font.. ![]() |

It depends on the formatting of the book, and as above, exactly what display settings you use for the specific affected books. I have no confirmation of this, but I also suspect, it only affects epubs and not kepubs, though I can't verify that. Overall, though, since you can quickly correct it when it happens, this is more of a minor annoyance than anything else. (But, it seems, with Kobo, there's always something making me wait for the next firmware update.... bah)

Back to London Drugs
This is a deal breaker for me. The first book we opened, the first page we looked at, and the whole bottom line is missing (except the tops of the t's and h's).
Bottom line: fiddling with fonts and text sizes to "fix" what is obviously a very serious bug that never should have made it through final testing is just annoying and dumb. For $140, I expect it to just work properly out of the box. I shouldn't have to wait for updates or use annoying workarounds that may or may not resolve the issue. At first I thought this could just be a bug with this one book, but two pages of people having the same problem tells me this is a systematic fault that should have been caught during production and testing. I'll be returning this unit and getting something different. In a market with that much competition, the makers of e-readers can't afford to be so sloppy. |

Whick Kobo are you using?
There were some issues with fonts and an earlier firmware release on the Kobo Touch but that has been resolved for some time now. |
