I took a break from the series to read some Sci-fi, but came across a reading order for the last two published books (A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons). This was from a link on reddit (which I may have found here on MR ...can't remember), but I'm seriously considering trying it out in light of what I've read about ADwD.

Anyway...here's the link (and, if this isn't allowed, please feel free to eliminate it from this post)...

There are certainly a lot of characters and a lot of backstory, but that's Martin's style.

I am a fast reader, but you've convinced me to........ give up.

Backstory's no problem, nor, normally, is a lot of characters - but these aren't characters, thy're just bunged in to fill up the pages, to my mind.

Nah, I think, on reflection, Ron is definitely on the money.

I feel a bit annoyed now, that I actually went to 5 - which I speed-read at least half of anyway.

That's me lot, mate.

For those who want to keep going, here is a one hour session with GRRM where he discusses the TV series and ADWD.

I mostly liked the first 3, didn't like 4, and the reviews of 5 are pretty poor on Amazon, so I think I may be done with this series. It's a pity. I think he might have turned out a great trilogy if he had focused it more.
