Perhaps, they wanted to keep costs down by not using Pearl screens.

Or this is another sign of too few programmers in Kiev. Maybe they had to decide between pearl and pen support as they did not have the time or manpower to implement pearl and wacom touch together.
Onyx did make a similar decision, they produced one device with touch screen and without pearl and one device with pearl but without touch screen. |

The reason I am buying a dedicated reader is, above all, the screen and the e-ink technology. And, yes, I want the best available version. You know, the one that Kindle et al. have been having for quite some time now. Yes, I want a Pearl screen. Last edited by rogue_librarian; 09-12-2011 at 04:28 AM. |

as far as the Pocketbook products are concerned, I think they are trying to avoid the additional overhead related to switching to another platform. In the Russian forum, there are many messages popping up from salespeople they are doing just fine with those out-of-dated products, which is based on the oversight that your sales are going to increase anyway in a growing market being far from saturation. Good luck with this attitude on the western markets. Last edited by eLiNK; 09-12-2011 at 04:56 AM. |

See here. Edit: I looked again, and it seems the A60 Pearl is no longer sold in Russia either. However, my point of course was merely that Onyx never made the alleged choice. BTW, some months ago Onyx signed a contract with the company that supplies the touch screen technology e.g. for the Sony readers. That means that in the not too distant future we can expect Onyx to release readers with this technology rather than the current Wacom touchscreens, and seeing that Onyx now focuses mainly on models with Pearl screens I don't see them going back to non-Pearl. Why can't Pocketbook make similar choices? "Technology of yesteryear at today's prices"? No, it's technology of yesteryear at prices of yesteryear. Today's prices would be a lot lower! I know of the A60 Pearl and I don't think that this contradicts my post. Onyx first developed separately a no pearl/wacom and a pearl/no wacom device (90/91) and only afterwards combined these two features into one firmware (60).

![]() We have been selling the Pearl version of the A60 for a few weeks. I made an announcement here about it by the moderators thought it was too much like advertising. i did add the announcement to an already existent thread here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...03#post1717903 http://www.dulinsbooks.com/ereader/b...pearl-display/ and sold off the few remaining non Pearl i had in the deals/freebies section ![]() The Pearl version of the X60 is also available to us but we dont get many inquiries about that style so I havent offered it yet. This is conjecture only. I have no confirmation if this is true. But I suspect the reason Onyx and others are now able to "leapfrog" to Pearl is that PocketBook bought the remaining lot of Vizplex displays.
It would have been advantageous for PocketBook because they would have negotiated a very good price so as to extend their margin but risky as they may have stock sitting while competitors are able to offer the latest tech. |
