I do like the idea of library checkouts on the T1. That means if you have WiFi and are away from home, you won't have to lose your reserve.

Yeah, as long as that works, I'll be happy. I actually just lost a reserve this last week for that very reason. :/

The "official" announcement is here. Egads their images are broken. I am hoping for more announcements - at least for a larger model. I wanted to a 7" this time, but at $149 US dollars I may cave for the 6" too.

From what I've read so far, it sounds like they're just making the one model.

This sounds really nice. I really like the idea of checking out books from the device. My Dad has been waiting to buy a reader for my mom and she wants to download library books etc so I think this will be a good fit for her, especially if there are more font sizes/style choices on the fly.

I also want to get a reader for my dh. He has a pocketbook 360 but it does not hold a charge very well and froze a lot so it rarely gets used. I have enjoyed my Sony 650 way more than the pocketbook. Touchscreen and something that just plain works has been wonderful.

I look forward to hearing about this model in the wild.

How gradual are the font size changes? I don't particularly care for large leaps from "too small" to "too large." I'm giving some consideration in purchasing one...perhaps in a few months. I'll wait until some feedback accumulates first.

Perhaps but you don't compare the newest model with one from 2 generations ago. You compare the newest model with the most recent model, being the 350, 650 & 950.

Is there a big difference between the kobo touch and PRS-T1? Both have the same specs, or?

We won't know all the differences until the detailed reviews come in. The T1 has audio and physical page turn buttons, multiple dictionaries and it most likely supports landscape mode.

Yes! The Sony is infinitely better! LOL It's sure to be far more stable the the Kobo. Heck just about any reader seems to be more stable than the Kobo Touch. The fool thing keeps having to be factory reset. What kind of a crappy device is that?!?

Everything has it's faults and issues and of course we all have our own preferences but how can anyone argue that the Kobo would be better when the software on the device itself constantly crashes?

I prefer the 350 over the KT for the former's size and superior library management, but the KT is a decent reader and it hasn't crashed or needed to be reset once for me, even with the problematic 1.9.9 firmware.

I'm really pleased that Sony is continuing to release competitive reader models, though without a 5" model, there's no incentive for me to upgrade.

I also wonder when this new ereader will be released in Australia -- will the Sony Reader Store finally be available to us antipodeans or will Sony partner with a local bookseller instead for the integrated store functionality?
