Right, I installed version 0.8.14. Then I deleted the 4 files in My Kindle Content and removed the book from the Calibre library and started from scratch again. Same result. The new .mobi file viewed in Calibre is perfect, but the file saved to disk has still not been updated. I completed the save to disk at 16:26. This is the time showing for the new files saved to disk.

Kovid Goyal sent me an email.

The problem is a Kindle-for-PC problem, nothing to do with Calibre.

Kovid advised me to remove the book from the device in KFPC, then Save to Disk in Calibre, but using a disk folder other than My Kindle Content.

This worked. When I double-click on the newly saved .MOBI file, KFPC picks up the new, correct version.

Kovid suggests using Kindle Previewer iso KFPC.

I've apologized to Kovid by email and in my blog, and I repeat my apology here. Sorry for suggesting that Calibre had a bug, Kovid.

Just for the record since your status line said you were running 0.8.3 that is the version you have been running. You apparently never actually ran the 0.8.15 msi file or any other upgrade since 0.8.3 was installed. Downloading a new version doesn't do anything, in order to upgrade you must actually run the file.

I'm glad you got it worked out.

Yes, I got that. But who knew? Most (all?) other downloads just do their thing, don't they? Anyway, you learn something new every day.

It's a bit of a mystery why I only ran into this problem with this book, given that I've been using KFPC with Calibre for months.

Thanks for your help, everybody.

And thanks again, Kovid.
