Whatever Overdrive was using before this refit worked fine with standard plugins that most people have. Requiring Silverlight when most people won't know it's Silverlight they don't have is ass backwards.

They should at least say someplace that Silverlight is needed. Does Silverlight work with Firefox?

You've completely and entirely missed my point. The functionality that Overdrive is using Silverlight for is completely unnecessary. It's just there to show the top books at the moment. It does not in any way prevent anyone from doing a search. It's dumb, but it doesn't reduce the functionality of the site in any significant way if you don't have the plugin.

And Silverlight works in every browser on Windows and OS X. It doesn't work on Linux, though the Mono project is working to remedy that with Moonlight (it's unlikely that will ever support the DRM required to run Netflix streaming, but for something like Overdrive is using Moonlight should be just fine).

Agreed -- Silverlight is not needed to search books!
