Compared to the Borders I just visited that is closing--they all are closing--everything is 30-50% off and there are a lot of randomish things on the shelves and the employees are verbally worried about finding new jobs

Few people buying.
I noticed this as well. I went there on a couple of occasions with the intent to buy. Still too pricey. Bought a case for my Kobo and nothing else.

Look for the glue residue where the Borders Bar Code label was

I was in the one borders closest to me yesterday. TONS of books still there. One thing that really bugged me, was that some things didn't seem to really be discounted. They had a cover for a PRS505, heavily worn box, marked for $69.99. Even with the 30% off, I still thought that to be high.

Maybe that's the reason why they went out of business, don't you think? High prices and poor customer service.

They were always cheaper than B&N. There was almost always a 33 or 40 percent off coupon in effect from them. Never seen anything similar from B&N.

I disagree on the prices comment, at least for some computer books which is basically what I buy. I went there and saw high prices and poor or no selection.

But there was something that were not doing so good. No company goes out of business if they are doing well, don't you think?

God no. Prices at my Borders were ALWAYS cheaper than at my local Barnes and Noble (which was why I shopped at Borders rather than B&N) and the staff at the store near me was wonderful. I'm going to miss them and the store a great deal.

Borders is going under for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the fact that they relied on Amazon for a long time for their online sales rather than developing their own online store, then later not developing their own proprietary e-reader and selling Sony and Kobo instead. The former was probably MUCH more damaging than the latter.

Stupid business decisions made seven or so years ago are what really sunk the company.

I say the lack of their own ebook sales hurt more than not having their own dedicated reader.

And on prices, Typically they were cheaper than B&N for what I went there for. And on the covers, I know previously, they'd always sold things fairly cheap when clearanced. My girlfriend got a lighted cover for her PRS300 for $5 when they clearanced them out last year.

Or perhaps it is.

From public statements, Borders liquidators were planning to close all warehouses tomorrow, and sales in still open retail stores continue to ramp up with "new" stock. I'd think selling off stock cheap to B&N would be something you wouldn't see for a couple of more weeks. Borders will want to hold on to the best stock and get as close to retail for that before unloading it in bulk at 5¢ and 10¢ on the dollar.
Analyze it any way you'd like; believe it or don't. It's up to you, it makes no difference.
