No, that falls within the same use case. The device suspends regardless of what menu is open. So say we update the time when you open the menu. Thee user is allowed to open the reading menu and leave it open and the clock would appear 'stuck' from their perspective.

And again I'll note that updating just the pixels that make up the clock display once every minute would use an inconsequential amount of energy. |

Do you have use times for the middle menu that would indicate how long a user has the middle screen menu open? I would suspect from my times using the middle screen menu is less than 1min at a time if that. |

The NOOK Touch displays the time in this manner and the clock updates when the menu stays on the screen. Not trying to get into a NOOK vs. Kobo thing. Haven't seen any complaints from NOOK owners about battery depletion.

I thought what people were asking for here was a clock that is _only_ visible from the middle-tap screen. i.e. it would go away when the middle-tap icons are hidden (when reading). With this design, you'd only have to update the clock once, when the middle-tap screen is first displayed -- and not any more for the time the middle-tap screen stays open.

As a developer myself I understand about just show the clock and forget about updating it - because after a minute it will be wrong. And after 10 minutes, and you miss your bus, you will blame ME.
What about this usage model - show the clock for 1 minute. Then, blank it out and don't worry about updating the menu screen again. (ps. I am a s/w developer but not for Kobo in case that is not clear!) |

let us choose
it should be an option where we users can choose to drain the battery to have the clock or not.
Just make it clear: clock? load batteries often! |

Well, they did join MR over 8 years ago and made a total of 6 posts in that time. Maybe it took that long to read all the way back and they are attempting to complete MR? ;-p
