The Kindle comes with a cord that can either be plugged into a computer, or with the attachment of a plug (included with purchase) that can be put into a power outlet.

If you're looking for cheap and are going to the UK, try Tesco's on-line store. They were selling the Bookeen Opus for 65 pounds. It's incredibly easy to use, the interface is just like an external hardrive.

To recharge, you use the usb cable but you can plug it into an usb adapter and charge direct from the wall socket.

Bookeen lets you choose between ePub and Mobi. Their devices come with firmware for ePub, but you can download new firmware and change to Mobi. You can change back and forth as many times as you want.

Their Cybook range (Gen3, Opus, and Orizon) all have 12 font sizes, you can use any TT font you want. Although I use my Opus and Gen3 in English, it recognises most European languages.

Noughty, since you are moving to the UK in a couple of months, I'd like to suggest you wait to buy a reader. Buy one in the UK. Sony is due out with new models most likely in October. You'd get ePub, IR touch, and a full warranty.

I am thinking about waiting too. Buying in UK would be better and easier. More options. But I wish I had one now. Well, getting one in autumn could be a birthday present

Kindle or Nook. Kindle looks cheaper though.

I was just wondering why refurbished kindle comes without a charger? It is a deal breaker for me. How can it be a device for travel if I have to always have my computer with me? (well ok, it's battery lasts long, but still, nice to know I can charge it without my computer)

So far I think it is the only minus for refurbished kindle (also that it is used). Warranty is the same? And all contents of the box the same? Like only charger is missing?

I see refurbished model for 80 £ (wifi) and it is a nice price. I wish I knew how much the new kindle will cost and how it will be modified

So new kindle is here and new sony (almost) is here too.
At the moment I am considering Kindle NT. The downside of course is unusable keyboard. But it is quite cheap. And I do not plan to write a lot, I plan to read . But sometimes keyboard will be necessary.

I wanted to know about collections. You can make them according to author, genre. Will they all appear in the same list? I don't see a point in having 100 collection list. In that case using keyboard to write the first letter or so will be necessary (does it search immediately or you need to enter a letter and when press search?).

If I decide I can afford the touch model, I am thinking between Kindle touch (if it comes to UK) and Sony new reader. I like sony interface way more. It looks smarter, more user friendly.
But I do not like the way to go to next page. On both of them. Sony you have to actually swipe, which doesn't sound nice and with kindle you can also tap, which is better but still involves moving the finger. For someone who reads as I do it can be bad. Pressing next page for hundreds of times while reading a single book in one evening... Sony does have some buttons (for page turning too) but they are in a silly place in my opinion. I think I would use my thumb to change the page so it would be better if page buttons were on the right not left (I like kindle buttons on the side). But Sony is good with pdfs...

So touch models are easier to use for other things except for reading. Which is so silly. Is where some touch model already released? Can someone give some feedback on page turning?

Also open to other suggestions, but only for e-ink readers, not too expensive (max max 130 pounds) and available at UK. Not interested in buying from US or any other country - shipping, warranty problems etc.

Update: Sony doesn't sell internationally? Does it sell in UK?
It seems if you are a reader you should live in US (I'd so buy Kindle special offers )

Now also considering Kindle Keyboard wifi refurbished. It's cheaper than new kindle.

The K4's will be available outside of the US at some point in time. I think Amazon learned its lesson from the K3 launch when sales went fine in the US but there was a real shortage across Europe. It looks like they are selling to the US first and will ramp up international Kindles a little bit later. The only difference between the US and International version is the 3G/WiFi chip but that does require a different production run.

The K4 Lite (Non-touch) keyboard is reported to work pretty well for folks. I have not read too many posts where peopel were very unhappy with it.

To save money.

Actually, some of the brand new Kindle models come without one. They include the USB cable though, but no AC adapter.

As long as the voltage is the same as the original, you should be fine.

Do not worry about the current. The AC adapter won't deliver more than what the device really needs.

I use my HTC cellphone adapter with my Samsung cellphone and Kindle 3G with no issues at all. USB cable is the standard Kindle/Amazon cable.

Speaking as someone easily annoyed, it's not a big deal to swipe the screen to turn the page. After about page 5, I don't notice the swipe or the flash. The page turn buttons are useful when my fingers aren't quite as clean as they should be to touch the screen.

For the interface, I like the Sony better than any other one that I've tried. I use Calibre to correct the metadata of my books. When Calibre transfers a book to the reader, it creates collections based on tags and series. Since you set those, you decide what your collections will be. If you send a series all at once, they will show up in order in the collection. With the Sony interface, the alphabet is down the right side of the screen for both collections and when browsing all books. Tap on a letter to jump to that part of the list. No need to type anything first. You can sort the books by author, date added, title, file name or latest read. From the home screen, you can tap on Collections, Books, or what you're currently reading. Authors and titles are not mixed in with collections unless you choose to tag a book with the author's name.

The touch screen is nice when selecting books, moving around in a table of contents, and selecting articles in a periodical. Imagine trying to select a hyperlink on your computer by pushing the arrow keys versus being able to point with your mouse and click. That's the difference between touch and keybpard.

The Sony is sold in the UK, at Waterstones for certain and perhaps with other retailers.
