I tried launching ADE with ProcMon running. No access to any of the removable drives apart from looking for a \.adobe-digital-editions\activation.xml and \.adobe-digital-editions\device.xml; neither of which were found.

I will however try setting up a brand new install of ADE under VMWare and repeat.

I BET the problem is that the initial ADE setup has NOT correctly completed and as was mentioned above, a whole computer scan is being performed.

Yes, when ADE crashed, my Kobo was at drive L, a USB port.

The Stevenson title is, as I said, totally inert and inactive in my Calibre directory. Kobo hasn't had it; ADE hasn't had it.
Are you sure it's not on your Kobo? It's possible to set Calibre so that it automatically syncs your library when you connect your Kobo. It would be a very strange error indeed for it to report an issue with a file on your L: drive when no such file exists. Try looking at the files on your Kobo directly and I suspect you'll find it under the directory path mentioned in the error message.

.. I had similar thoughts, but thought I'd advise checking (as in my post above) before jumping to such a conclusion. The reference to L: means ADE is interacting with the device, nothing to do directly with Calibre.

Anyway will wait for @almagary to provide some details.

@PeterT: Thanks, didn't personally have time (or ADE on this machine) to test directly.

I also wonder whether that ePub is actually corrupted. I think the other issue that needs to be solved is

It's a screengrab of a piece of the ADE error-message debris that flew by as ADE crashed when, as always does, it encountered my Kobo WiFi.
I do think we need a lot more info here.

Where IS the Calibre library stored?

How was that book (and others) copied to the Kobo WiFi?

In 64-bit Windows 7 it defaults to C:\Users\YourUserName\Calibre Library

Calibre's library can be anywhere you choose (bt if you don't make an active choice it's probably where ScalyFreaks suggests).

According to the error message ADE is NOT "monitoring" anything on the computer, but rather the Kobo.

My guess: When the Kobo gets connected ADE reads it's database, and that database suggests the book should be there. However, it's not. Hence the message.

Why does ADE think it's there? Well, that is probably because of some sort of Calibre and/or user error. The OP insists that the book has never been transferred to the Kobo, but even though it has never been the intention to do so it may have happened. We don't always do what we THINK we're doing...

What I'm saying with this is basically that you actually don't have anything to support the statement that ADE "monitors" anything except the connected device.

molman and others: I'm still here but just lost the post I was composing in the message box because I went back a page in the thread. MobileRead proprietors: can you fix this? or have a save-draft button?

Anyway, I'll have to redraft. Hang on.

I tend to type longer posts in notepad/word just out of habit for such losses (accidental back/forward/refresh etc..).

Another option is to frequently copy the text to clipboard as a "save in memory" sort of thing.
