Even if I did feel the need to purchase a book and start reading it right away, I would still want to download it to my computer first, because I always tweak and edit the files a bit to fit my preferences. I'm an odd duck! |

i often find myself at odds with my reading material. i was in a house with 0 internet. i needed an escape hatch for awhile to see what else is out there. the kindle did that at its so-so pace. if i didn't have 3g i would've suffered a lot of anguish until i went home and tethered myself to my computer.
a big difference between the 3g of a smart phone and that of a kindle is that it's free. |

it will always be a "what if?" for me because i decided on a kindle instead of a tablet. some do say it's easier to read on e-ink. |

Ehh... neither my tablet or my e-reader have 3G. I load up with books and go. As another poster mention there are plenty of free-wifi's around and failing that my Nexus One cellphone can act as a 3G hot spot.
When I read, I just want to read. It is to escape from life... not to connect! ![]() |

I see my K3 solely as my book, and I use it for reading. I get a strange comfort from thinking of my K3 in this very specific way. I like the fact that when I pick up my K3 it means I am going to read, nothing else. Sit me in front of my MacBook, and I am skipping all over the place, never settled. In fact, although I sometimes use my MacBook to control my music server, once I have selected the music to play I have to put the MacBook out of arm's reach to stop me tinkering away at something instead of concentrating on the music I have chosen to listen to. You may be correct that I miss all the goodies available from 3g, but I think I rather like it that way. ![]() |

perhaps my mindframe is different from some of you. i just can't help but think having it there when the moment arises is better than not having it. you'd be surprised how informed i can become just from quick kindle web browsing. |

First of all, apologies for my English, I try to write a long paragraph and it is not easy for me.
What I found really surprising is that I've never gone across a post written by somebody who is trying to convince me that not having 3G at my reader is good, but I've gone across a lot trying to convince me of the opposite. No, I don't have 3G at my reader. Sorry, I'm not in need of of immediate satisfaction. I can wait, I know how to write something if I'm really interested in getting information about it. If 3G is good for you, it's nice, you've the proper device, but don't try to tell me that I don't use it because I'm a poor girl who doesn't know what she is missing. I feel it a bit dismissive. I'll vote no to 3G. Unplug yourself from the network and experience life every now and then. Disconnect. From all of it and then reconnect to your surroundings.Listen to the noise of the city on your commute. Watch the city pass by as you ride the bus to work. Take in your environment. All of it.

Not knowing what I'm missing? I'm *not* missing the money that it would have cost me to buy a 3G enabled reader; it's still in my pocket.

I am perfectly cool with no 3g. Most places I am have wifi. Also, I have ADHD, so I prefer to not have any distractions while reading. The lack of wifi and 3g is one of the reasons I went with my 505 instead of a kindle.

I had 3G on my K1, K2 and original nook. I never used it, except to download books. Wi-fi is more than enough for me.
