ok - i think i get it.
if a source uses only the 7 step the xx-small to xx-large range, then only 7 values will be used, but if the source has 8 distinct font sizes, then all 8 key values may apply. as for book with 9 or more font sizes - that is probably too rare to worry about |

Any book with very large dropcaps is likely to use the "8th value" when converted to epub and probably azw3. |
